Learn About a Day In the Life of a Surgical Tech: Providing nursing care activities in the Operating Rooms under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Surgical Technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assist the surgical team in accomplishing the plan of surgical care. The Surgical Technologist will be responsible for activities of patient care which involve basic knowledge of sterile technique, sterilization procedures, principles of surgical procedures, basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, use and care of surgical instruments and equipment, actions and use of anesthetic agents. The Surgical Technologist ensures that all HMC Policies & Procedures and JCAHO regulations are adhered to during procedures. This individual will assist the Registered Nurse Coordinator in Service-specific processes. He/she is expected to adhere to and abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the Oklahoma Nursing Practice Act. Job Requirements: High School or GED Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program. Current surgical technologist certification through NBSTSA. One year of experience as a Surgical Tech. BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
