Registered Nurse - Adult Internal Medicine (PT, Day)

Job Description Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Department Description The Adult Internal Medicine Unit cares for medicine patients ranging from young adults to the elderly presenting with a wide variety of diagnoses. Patients found on this unit are often admitted for acute exacerbations of complex chronic conditions with a focus on pulmonary, gastrointestinal, sickle cell, renal failure, medical-psychological, and endocrine conditions. In addition, patients are admitted for diagnostic work-up and treatment of new-onset infectious disease processes. Continuous video camera monitoring and cardiac telemetry are also available, if needed, to provide comprehensive, safe patient care. Collaboration between our physician colleagues (teaching services and attending services) and multidisciplinary teams contributes to the high functioning teamwork found on this unit. The unit is also supported by the Geriatric Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), ACE RN Program Coordinator, Medical/Surgical CNS/Educators and an Oncology CNS. This cohesive team approach allows our nurses to provide a high standard of innovative care to patients. Nursing based research that enhances nursing or improves patient care and safety is actively supported here. In addition, a nursing clinical leadership structure is provided to support and mentor nurses of all levels of experience. Job Description The Outpatient Oncology Clinical Nurse II serves in a leadership role and delivers direct patient care to an adult Oncology outpatient population. This role will be focused on, but not limited to, Head & Neck Oncology patients. This nurse is experienced and highly skilled with an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the cancer disease process, the major treatment modalities, symptom management, supportive care, and patient education. At this operational level, the nurse proactively embraces the Oncology Nursing Society/Standards of Oncology Nursing practice to utilize the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. The nurse utilizes an interdisciplinary approach across the continuum of care with adherence to National Patient Safety Goals set forth by regulatory requirements. The nurse is recognized and utilized as a clinical resource and demonstrates investment in the overall forward movement of the unit and the organization. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Minimum three (3) years of total RN experience. Minimum one (1) year of oncology nursing experience (medical oncology, infusion oncology, or hematology/oncology) within the last 3 years, including experience caring for patients receiving chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and/or biologic agents and managing treatment-related toxicities, including immune-related adverse events. Minimum one (1) year outpatient or ambulatory RN experience within the last two (2) years. Demonstrated clinical judgment in the assessment and management of oncology treatment-related symptoms, patient education, and care coordination in the ambulatory setting.
