Assures appropriate consent has been obtained prior to treatment or procedures. Performs EKG and oxymetry readings as needed by physician. Performs lab procedures and processing of lab specimens as needed. Files all labs and outside reports accurately and as needed. Obtains blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions. Maintains all exam room disinfection protocols. Maintains all chemo room and procedure room disinfection protocols. Prepares exam rooms including re-stocking of treatment areas. Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as required or directed by physicians. Arranges for pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed. Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc. Acts as a backup for other medical assistants and schedulers as needed. Maintains patient files, records and other information. Acts as preceptor and provides input to performance appraisals of Medical Assistants Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Graduate from an accredited school for practical nursing. Requires a minimum of five years experience as a practical nurse in a hospital or clinic setting. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Current LPN state license and registration with the State Board of Practical Nursing in practicing state. Current CPR certification required.
