Job Summary The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides high-quality, patient-centered care by performing delegated tasks in alignment with the PCT's training and the department's needs. Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) (LVN at Texas facilities), the PCT supports patient care by assisting with activities of daily living, maintaining a safe and organized care environment, and ensuring effective communication within the healthcare team. Essential Functions Assists nursing staff in delivering care, performing delegated basic patient care services, and ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organized environment. Collects and records patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, oxygen saturation, intake/output, and calorie counts, reporting findings to the RN/LPN/LVN. Supports patients with meals, feeding, bathing, oral care, grooming, linen changes, skin care, elimination assistance, and urinary catheter care. Assists with patient positioning, repositioning, dangling, ambulating, and using mobility aids such as walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs. Collects urine and stool samples and performs blood glucose monitoring via finger sticks, documenting and reporting results to the RN/LPN/LVN. Communicates patient information effectively to the care team, adapts to change, and maintains professionalism in all interactions. Maintains a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff, adhering to infection control and safety protocols, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Participates in performance improvement initiatives, risk management reporting, and compliance with National Patient Safety Goals and Core Measures. May be required to maintain continuous visual observation of the patient and remains with them at all times unless relieved by appropriate personnel. Performs other duties as assigned. High acuity- step-down unit to SICU. We not only take care of transplant patients but also see liver disease, renal disease, general abdominal surgeries, oncology surgery and urology overflow. This is a fast-paced, moderate acuity floor that requires the ability to think on your feet and build relationships with your patients. Major Responsibilities: Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, completes activities of daily living, vital sign completion and blood glucose monitoring. Collaborates with the Registered Nurse in establishing a plan of care based upon an analysis of health, education and developmental needs and patient/family preferences. Under the observation of the Registered Nurse, evaluates patient response to interventions and effectively communicates observations and patient needs to the Registered Nurse. Develops delegation skills appropriate to Health Unit Coordinators, Nursing Assistants and technical roles on unit. Administers medication as delegated by the Registered Nurse. The level of clinical judgment and proficiency of skill must be evaluated prior to medication administration. Manages an increased number of patients and incorporates principles of time management into shift routine. Demonstrates an ability to collect and synthesize relevant patient data accurately identifying patient status and needs. In emergency situations and under appropriate supervision of a Registered Nurse, participates in activities they have demonstrated knowledge and skill in. Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Description A nursing student, who has completed the first clinical year, inclusive of medical surgical nursing, within a baccalaureate nursing program and has a fundamental knowledge of the art and science of nursing, can function in this role. This experience assists the student nurse in expanding previously learned theory and skills through supervised patient care within a work setting. *ST41 is a short-term position. Responsibilities Performs and records patients vital signs, such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations and pain rating.
