The Registered Nurse is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position will be 0.8FTE/part-time, and the schedule will be 4x8 hour shifts from 7:30am - 4pm, 8am - 4:30pm, or 8:30am - 5pm depending on clinic needs. This position will be located at the Overlake Clinic in Bellevue, WA. A paid Intern (full-time) position is immediately available in the Cheung laboratory within Fred Hutch’s Translational ResearchProgram. Metastatic breast cancer remains a devastating disease, and new therapies and prevention strategies are desperately needed. In the Cheung lab, we aim to decipher how metastatic breast cancer arises and why metastatic breast cancer becomes therapy resistant. To answer these essential questions, we deploy advanced microscopy, tumor organoids (three-dimensional tumors in a dish), animal models, and clinical studies in metastatic breast cancer patients. Our lab takes a particular interest in 1) uncovering the ways that breast cancer cells coordinate with their neighbors to orchestrate metastasis and 2) with an eye toward developing new technologies and therapeutic approaches to improve survival from metastatic breast cancer. We are looking for a highly organized and highly motivated individual who will be responsible for performing standard and investigative laboratory work in support of our scientific mission. Responsibilities This position will work under the Principal Investigator and a senior laboratory technician, and work with the laboratory personnel. The individual will use discretion and judgment in carrying out the following job duties and work aiding others in the laboratory. JOB DUTIES: Culture mouse and human cells. Assist in management of our murine colony, including breeding, genotyping, and weaning litters. Assist in performing in vivo studies of metastasis including tissue harvests, tissue processing, and microscopy. Conduct immunofluorescent staining of tissues, followed by imaging and analysis. Assist in publication of results by proofreading, editing, and contributing ideas. May perform statistical analyses, write computer programs, or manage research database. Assist in general lab maintenance and tasks. Perform other duties as required. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. One (1) cumulative year of experience in basic laboratory skills, including experience with culturing and expanding mammalian cells, experience with microscopy, and experience with mouse husbandry. This position is for a Clinical Nurse Coordinator RN working in the Evergreen Health Fred Hutch Clinic providing direct and indirect patient care, including telephone triage, symptom management, patiend education, and care coordination. The resident nurse will work closely with a trained preceptor and master skills necessary to provide safe and accurate patient care which include, but not limited to, assessment, treatment administration and evaluation of patient response to treatment. Primary focus during the residency program is to learn about the nursing care of oncology, immunotherapy and bone marrow transplant patients. In addition, in depth understanding of patient and family psych-social needs and the various stages of grief and death and dying will be provided. During the first 2 weeks of centralized onboarding, all RN residents will work Monday–Friday, 8am–4:30pm. During the unit orientation, residents are paired with preceptors and will be assigned shifts to mirror their designated preceptors’ schedules. The Procedure Suite provides a venue for invasive procedures, with or without moderate sedation or general anesthesia, to adult patients with hematologic malignancies, solid tumor cancers and screening procedures. Procedures include bone marrow biopsy, aspiration and skin biopsy; GI and pulmonary endoscopy; lumbar puncture and intrathecal medication administration; and placement/removal of tunneled and non-tunneled central vascular access devices. Strong emphasis is placed on moderate sedation administration, our expanding Interventional Radiology suite with developments in CT/Angio biopsy, and on our unique RN-procedurist bone marrow procedure program. The procedure suite team also provides support for clinic emergency response events. The resident nurse will work closely with a trained preceptor and master skills necessary to provide safe and accurate patient care. The intern will contribute to projects using genetically engineered mouse models through the RCAS/tv-a system to study tumor progression and therapeutic response. The intern will gain experience in laboratory animal handling and treatment, histological tissue processing, quantitative image analysis, and cell culture techniques. The internship will also provide experience in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific communication. This is a part time, in-person internship. Responsibilities Establish a comprehensive understanding of glioblastoma biology, with emphasis on keyoncogenic drivers and the use of the RCAS/tv-a system to model disease progression and evaluate therapeutic strategies. The Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) in the GI Care Neighborhood provides direct and indirect care to GI Oncology patients, including those participating in research. The CNC will work with other members of the GI Care Team including Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, research coordinators, and non-clinic staff to provide collaborative, patient centered care. The CNC will build rapport and trust with the patient population and will be expected to communicate and work effectively with other members of the team. This is a 1.0 FTE, 40 hours/week. Responsibilities Assesses physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs and evaluates patients’ adaptation to health changes Develops a plan of care based on patients’ disease, symptoms, and response to treatment Educates patients, families, and caregivers on disease processes, treatment, side effects and symptom management Coordinates with inter-disciplinary team to ensure continuity of care Refers patients, families and caregivers as appropriate to other clinical resources/professionals such as social work, home health care, clinical nutrition, etc. Implements, evaluates and modifies plan of care Integrates research and evidence based knowledge into clinical practice In addition to above primary responsibilities of the Registered Nurses (RN), the Clinical Nurse Coordinator (CNC) will have the following key responsibilities: Direct Patient Care Education patients and families: chemotherapy, central lines, injections, home care Telephone, email and in person symptom triage New patient orientation Caregiver support Assessment of needs for additional supportive care resources Prescription refills Result reviews Indirect Patient Care Supportive care referrals Assist with FMLA paperwork, disability paperwork, Ferry passes Coordination of outside clinical care Ensuring continuity of care with outside providers Collaboration with research team for patients on trial Communication and Teamwork Attend regular team meetings with provider and nursing teams. Coordination of care with ancillary services. Delegation of tasks to appropriate team members Coordinating patient schedules with clinic team. Collaboration with infusion RN and other members of the care team to assure patient needs are met. Real-time management and escalation of issues in clinic. Professional Development and Clinic Engagement Document all nursing care activities accurately and in a timely fashion. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Active participation in continuing education, departmental projects, committee work, and quality improvement initiatives. Qualifications Required: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing Must have current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license or current NLC multistate license (MSL); and must upgrade to an MSL with primary state of residence, WA, within 60 days of hire. This requirement may be waived under specific circumstances, subject to approval. Applicants that do not have previous oncology experience will be provided additional training and support Current BLS AHA Health Provider Card (or equivalent course, such as by the American Red Cross) and renewal required every two years Additional certification may be required dependent upon department. The Registered Nurse - Infusion is a member of an interdisciplinary care team. This role provides patient centric care and is primarily responsible for nursing assessment and diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. This position will be per diem, shifts will be Monday-Friday, 10 hour shifts from 7:30am-6pm. This position will be located at the Northwest Clinic in North Seattle, WA.
