Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations, as well as willingness to adapt to varying assignments. 2. Demonstrates ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per hospital policy. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population. 3. Ability to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. 4. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age and condition. 5. Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition. 6. Follows all medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. 7. Demonstrates ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. 8. Demonstrates an ability to assist physician with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. 9. Ability to perform glucometer testing (point-of-care testing) per Clinical Laboratory’s and the patient care unit’s policies and procedures 10. Formulates a teaching plan bases on identified patient learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, and ensures the family is included in teaching as appropriate. Ability to interpret results of laboratory tests including following any protocols and notification of providers. 6. Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age. 7. Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. 8. Follow the five medication rights and reduce the potential for medication errors. Scanning of medications in the electronic record is an expectation for safety except in emergency scenarios. 9. Formulates an education plan for patients based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning, family is included in education as appropriate. 10. Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills. Assists physician and RN with endoscopic procedures. 3Assists with specimens according to policy. Applies the principles of aseptic technique and prescribed procedure room procedures to competently perform endoscopy technician functions. Performs required maintenance of instruments, supplies and equipment by adhering to cleaning, care, utilizations and sterilization procedures as directed. Notifies supervisor of any malfunction of equipment. Uses and maintains DSD according to manufacturer recommendations. Ensures a clean and tidy work area throughout the scope process. Restocks endoscopy room with designated supplies. The Pre-op Ward Clerk / Unit Secretary: Answers phones, transfers calls, handles requests and takes messages. Makes phone calls to patients when arrival times are changed. Will keep Charge nurse updated with calls as needed. Handles Surgical Schedules: Prints copies of the surgery schedule Update schedules daily Is responsible for patient charts for final review by Charge Nurse: Inserts paperwork, lab reports, EKG’s, history & physicals, and physician orders. The CNA assigned to PACU I: Assists in admitting patients to the PACU I area. Attaches monitors and SCDs. Empties and records foleys and drains. Applies warm blankets and ice packs to patients. The CNA assigned to PACU II: Assists patients to the bathroom and helps patients in getting dressed. Transports patients to their car. Contacts department manager, directors, administrate personnel or administrator-on-call for assistance in problem solving in an appropriate and timely manner.
