Medical Assistant

In line with our values and mission, Medical Assistants serve as an integral member of the care team by providing welcoming, accessible comprehensive care for patients of all ages. The Medical Assistants contribute to the medical team by interviewing patients, measuring vital signs, and recording information on patients’ charts. Preparing treatment rooms for examination and assisting with minor office procedures, in addition to other duties as assigned. Functions and Responsibilities 1. In line with our values and mission, serve as a positive, enthusiastic, professional, and proactive member of the care team. 2. Assist with pre-visit planning for patients including review of routine labs, preventative services, immunizations, and acquiring supporting documentation from other providers. 3. Prepare rooms and patients for medical exams and assists with treatments and procedures. 4. Rooms patients, measures vital signs, such as pulse, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height. 5. Gives injections, tests, and procedures (e.g., EKGs, blood tests) and may perform routine laboratory tests. 6. Reviews and understands immunization status of patients along with other preventative interventions and assists teams in engaging patients’ around preventative care. 7. Prepares charts for refill requests, responds to patients requests in consultation with medical providers and RN. 8. Cleans and sterilizes instruments. 9. Inventory, orders medical supplies, clean and stock exam rooms 10. Schedules appointments, maintains electronic medical records and documents all relevant patient information in the EHR. 11. Chart scrub for future appointments schedule to identify care needs to be addressed at the visit 12. Assist with front desk coverage 13. Assist in special projects 14. Actively participate in staff meetings and in-services. 15. Adhere to the values and behavior statements of the organization 16. Ability to travel between sites, as needed, and as otherwise required by the organization 17. Other duties as assigned. LABORATORY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Open and close lab according to policy and procedure. 2. Perform phlebotomies. 3. Perform laboratory tests in-house or send out to reference laboratories as appropriate. 4. Enter lab results into the patient medical record. 5. Assure cleanliness of lab. 6. Maintain competencies on lab procedures and protocol JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND CREDENTIALS High School Diploma or Equivalent and ONE of the following • Graduate of an accredited medical assisting program; current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), credential preferred OR • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES • Ability to work efficiently and productively at all times. • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. • Ability to work as a team member. • Ability to use problem-solving and decision-making skills. • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions. • Able to provide health care in a sensitive, nonjudgmental manner to persons of all economic levels, cultural backgrounds and life experiences. • Computer experience, knowledge of EHR • Familiarity with general office equipment.
