This position provides direct healthcare services, manages chronic health conditions, responds to medical emergencies, administers medications, and ensures compliance with state immunization and health screening requirements. The nurse serves as a liaison between the school, families, healthcare providers, and community resources, advocating for student health needs and contributing to the development of individualized healthcare and emergency plans. Job Responsibility Description Student Support and Service Delivery Provide direct healthcare services to students, including first aid, illness assessment, medication administration, medical procedures, and at times one-on-one care of medically complex students. Manage acute illnesses and injuries as well as manage chronic health conditions. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and Emergency Care Plans (ECPs) for students with medical needs. Conduct mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, etc.) and follow up as required. Educate students and staff on health promotion, disease prevention, and injury reduction. May occasionally be required to work on-call shifts for student activities that occur before/after hours, on weekends, and off-site. Provide training, delegation, and supervision for those tasks by adhering to the provisions of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act. While not a direct supervisor the School Nurse holds significant responsibility for providing supervision and evaluative input for aides, assistants, and volunteers assigned to the school health program when applicable. Collaboration and Communication Collaborate with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and healthcare providers to improve student outcomes, including participating in crisis response and management efforts as part of a multidisciplinary team. Communicate students' progress and needs with parents and staff to ensure continuous support and development. Consult on communicable disease prevention and control and public health issues as they arise according to District guidelines, local and state public health agency guidelines and laws. Documentation and Compliance Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with state laws, district policies, and HIPAA/FERPA guidelines. Ensure compliance with state immunization laws and district health requirements. Complete Medicaid billing and required reporting using designated systems. This position provides direct nursing care, manages chronic health conditions, responds to medical emergencies, administers medications, and ensures compliance with state immunization and health screening requirements. When the assigned student is absent or medical needs are temporarily inactive, the nurse may provide broader school nursing support, including student health services, screenings, and general nursing coverage as assigned by the Coordinator of Health Services. Job Responsibility Description Student Support and Service Delivery Provide direct nursing services to medically complex students on an Individualized Education Program (IEP), Section 504 Plan, and health care plan.
