RN - PSYCH - PHP (TEMPORARY)

Responsibilities

Forest View Hospital, located just seven miles southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan, is a private 108 bed psychiatric facility that serves children, adolescents and adults. We are licensed by the State of Michigan, fully accredited by The Joint Commission and we bring more than 45 years of experience to the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health problems. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for a Psych RN in our Partial Hospitalization Program. New grads are welcome to apply!

 

The TEMP Psych RN provides nursing care to patients on each clinical unit as assigned, utilizing the nursing process.  Patient population serviced includes both adolescents and adults. 

 

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing the nursing process, the RN develops an initial nursing treatment plan for each admitted patient.
  • Competent in assessing, planning, and delivering care for patients with co-occurring disorders.
  • The nurse continually assesses and reassesses the patient’s medical and psychiatric status and changing needs.
  • Participates with other team members in planning and implementing the patient’s treatment plan.
  • Directs and participates with other personnel in maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu.
  • Assists with discharge planning and works with patient’s discharges.
  • Provides nursing interventions and education groups in accordance with the program and schedule.
  • Medication teaching activities, assessment of medication side effects and medication efficacy, and assists physicians in obtaining informed consent.
  • Communicates with patients and parents the appropriate procedure for sending medication to the PHP program, and provides education about those medications. Ensures that physician ordered prescriptions are sent home to the parent on the day they are written.
  • Maintains professionalism and adheres to the determined standards of care and performance.
  • Accurately transcribes physician orders according to nursing policy and procedure.
  • Adheres to the Infection Control policies and procedures of the hospital and follows standard precautions at all times.
  • Assesses and reassesses patient’s pain and provides nursing care as needed.
  • Attend Monthly Clinical Staff meetings or read minutes and sign form of  
  • Maintains and stays current with nursing standards of care and nursing practices.
  • Demonstrates the ability to handle incoming crisis calls, make referrals and complete assessments as necessary.
  • Demonstrates ability to maintain therapeutic relationships, which do not allow self-disclosure of personal/social information to patients and adheres to the Professional Boundary Policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • 6-12 months of previous Psych Nursing preferred, demonstrating a strong understanding of the unit they will be assisting in leadership. .
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Michigan.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency in providing general nursing care. Basic understanding of psychiatric nursing theory
  • CPR/Handle With Care certification preferred.
