Pay Information: Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.  External Hires:   Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based upon relevant experience. Medical Assistant 1 starts at $22.40 per hour. Medical Assistant 2 starts at $26.28 per hour. Job Summary: Medical Assistant 1: The Medical Assistant 1 is an entry-level position supporting multi-specialty clinic functions by participating in direct patient care during office visits, in-office procedures, and the post-operative period for dermatology, oncology, and ophthalmology. Incumbents perform assistance with procedures depending on their knowledge and training under direct and general supervision of a physician or licensed health care provider. The Medical Assistant 1 supports the Registered Nurse, Lead Licensed Practical Nurse, Medical Assistant 2, and Office Manager in the day-to-day flow of the surgery/specialty practice.  Primary duties include: Clinical Assistant duties include rooming patients, taking health history, vitals, reconciling medication lists, and presentation to the general surgeon or specialty provider. Assists in the business operations of the clinic to include answering the phone, scheduling appointments and filing records.    Medical Assistant 2: The Medical Assistant 2 is the journey level of the Medical Assistant series. Incumbents support multi-specialty clinic functions by participating in direct patient care during office visits, in-office procedures, and the post-operative period for dermatology, oncology, and ophthalmology. This position serves as a mentor to Medical Assistant 1 positions. At this level, the incumbent has passed specific competencies that allow them to work more independently performing assistance with all procedures under general supervision of a physician or licensed health care provider.  Primary duties include: Clinical Assistant duties include rooming patients, taking health history, vitals, reconciling medication lists, and presentation to the general surgeon or specialty provider. Assists in the business operations of the clinic to include answering the phone, scheduling appointments and filing records. Assists the Surgery Scheduler and Administrative Clinical staff with coordinating the scheduling of radiology studies, endoscopy cases and surgical cases for all clinic specialties. Provides administrative and clinical support for the RN, LPN, Insurance Verification Specialists and the Surgery Scheduler.   Minimum Qualifications for the Job: MA1: Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience: Twelve (12) months clerical experience in a healthcare setting required; Or Six (6) months experience as a Certified Nurse Aid. Substitution: One (1) year of Post-secondary coursework in any field may substitute for the experience requirement. License(s): None Certification(s): Refer to Mandatory Education policy upon hire and obtain required certifications within the required timeline. Note: This is a flexibly staffed position. Incumbents are eligible to promote from Medical Assistant 1 once they have successfully completed their preceptorship and meet minimum qualifications for the Medical Assistant 2 level. MA 2: Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Experience:   Six (6) months of experience as a Medical Assistant 1;  Or Six (6) months experience performing ambulatory or medical care working directly with patients;  Or Three (3) years of administrative experience in a healthcare setting (performing work equivalent to a BRH Clinical Administrative Assistant 2 or higher) Substitution: A Medical Assistant Certificate may substitute for the experience requirement; Or Two (2) years of Post-secondary coursework may substitute for the experience requirement. License(s): None Certification(s): Refer to Mandatory Education policy upon hire and obtain required certifications within the required timeline.   Preference(s):  Preference may be given to those who qualify for Medical Assistant 2.
