Under clinical supervision, assists in the delivery of patient care and treatment according to policies and procedures and Logan Health (LH) MAU/UAP (Unlicensed Assistive Personnel) scope of practice. At Logan Health Surgical Clinic, we provide specialized, patient-focused care to support individuals before, during, and after surgical procedures. Our clinic is committed to delivering high-quality, compassionate care while maintaining a collaborative, respectful, and safety-focused environment for both patients and staff.

We are seeking a Registered or Certified Medical Assistant to join our surgical clinic team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who thrives in a fast-paced clinical setting, works well alongside surgeons and advanced practice clinicians, and is committed to excellence in patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and room patients for examinations, procedures, and treatments following clinic protocols.

  • Obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and clinical information accurately in the medical record.

  • Assist physicians and advanced practice clinicians with minor procedures and physical exams.

  • Perform minor clinical procedures, including but not limited to suture and staple removal, application of dressings, splints, and casts.

  • Prepare exam rooms, equipment, and supplies based on patient and procedural needs.

  • Collect laboratory specimens and assist with diagnostic testing, treatments, and surgical coordination as needed.

  • Clean and disinfect equipment according to clinic and infection control policies.

  • Support patient scheduling, referrals, prior authorizations, registration activities, and collection of co-payments as assigned.

  • Triage incoming phone calls and patient portal messages to ensure appropriate follow-up by providers or nursing staff.

  • Participate in required meetings, committees, quality improvement initiatives, and risk-related departmental activities.

  • With approved training and competencies, may perform scribe duties, including accurate transcription, proofreading, and documentation support within the electronic medical record.

  • Maintain regular, consistent attendance and complete all onboarding education and required competencies prior to performing patient care tasks.

All Medical Assistants must practice within the Logan Health–defined MA/UAP Scope of Practice.

Required – One (1) of the Following:

  • Graduate of a CAAHEP or ABHES accredited medical assisting program, OR

  • Completion of a medical assistant program accredited by a regional or national accrediting organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, including a minimum of 720 clock hours of training with at least 160 hours of externship.

Certification Requirement:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA)

  • Registered Medical Assistant (AMT)

  • Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)

  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)

  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (AMCA)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience in a medical or surgical practice setting.

  • Current Health Care Provider CPR (or ability to complete prior to orientation completion).

  • Medical office experience and medical terminology training.

  • Working knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, basic laboratory values, and medical equipment.

  • Knowledge of HIPAA, patient confidentiality, infection control, aseptic technique, and regulatory standards.

  • Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to changing workloads and prioritize effectively.
