JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the UCSF Department of OB/GYN, REI guided by the policies and procedures, rules and regulations, and bylaws of the UCSF Medical Center, some Nursing Policies, and, Medical Staff Policies, and any unique ambulatory patient services this Nurse Practitioner (NP) position is assigned to in the Center for Reproductive Health (CRH). This AHP position may perform delegated functions as appropriate to their "scope of practice". In general, the "scope of practice" includes the management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved standardized procedures as identified by the list available on the Medical Staff Office website. The CIDP approved standardized procedures are unique to each person and are unlikely to include ALL SPs on the list. This position may provide patient care in approved age groups and UCSF Health licensed settings. The AHP has responsibility for the quality of standards of care for a specified patient population and evidences self-direction and accountability in the development of this role within the all UCSF medical center locations. UCSF Health requires all Advanced Health Practitioners (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Health sites (Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Satellite Clinics, et al). Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 30-60 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with the patient population and clinical role.

One (1 year of experience working as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health
Knowledge of general obstetrical care and female reproductive anatomy and physiology
This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.

C. Scope of Practice of the PA: 1. Evaluates and treats patients with acute, chronic complaints and health maintenance concerns related to specialty. 2. Obtains complete histories and performs pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new and return patients. 3. Performs or requests and evaluates diagnostic studies as indicated upon evaluation of the patient. All PA’s who are credentialed and privileged by April, 2021 who have not completed a controlled substance course must successfully complete the course by August 31, 2021 during which time patient specific approval of a medication order by a supervising physician is obtained, documented in the medical record, and is co-signed. Orders and collects specimens for routine laboratory tests, screening procedures and therapeutic procedures, including blood and blood products. 5. Orders physical therapy, occupational therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology examinations and nursing services. 6. Performs designated procedures after demonstrated competency, according to written standardized procedures where applicable. 7. Obtains informed consent, as indicated. 8. Initiates arrangements for hospital admissions and discharges and completes appropriate paperwork. 9. As directed by the supervising physician, enrolls patients in investigational studies approved by the Investigational Review Board (IRB), and orders the necessary tests and medications. After appropriate training, assists the supervising physician in the operating room (OR). a. Acts as first or second assistant under the supervision of an approved supervising physician. b. Performs surgical procedures in the personal presence of the supervising physician. 11. Recognizes and considers age-specific needs of patients. 12. Effectively communicates and interacts with patients, families, staff and members of the community from diverse backgrounds. 13. Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician, and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary. 14. Facilitates the coordination of inpatient and outpatient care and services as needed. 15. Facilitates collaboration between providers and coordination of community resources. 16.
