Summary/Objective

The Nursing Supervisor facilitates Departmental operations through the coordination and supervision of direct patient care on all nursing units. Is responsible for ensuring that professional nursing care and related assistance is provided to patients of any age group presenting to the facility. The Nursing Supervisor provides direction to and is a resource for all Nurses and non-licensed nursing personnel in providing direct patient care. The Nursing Supervisor supports the medical care and psychiatric care of patients under the direction of the Medical Staff pursuant to the mission and objectives of the Hospital.

  1. As part of a recovery oriented treatment team provides individualized, goal-directed, nursing care by performing comprehensive nursing assessments regarding the health status of the patient, making nursing diagnoses that serve as the basis for the strategy of care, developing a plan of care based on the assessment and nursing diagnosis, implementing nursing care, and evaluating the patient's responses to nursing interventions.
  2. Delegate tasks to unlicensed personnel that take into consideration patient safety, staff safety, and experience and knowledge of staff.
  3. Knows the rationale for and the effects of medications, including psychoactive medications, and shall correctly administer said medications.
  4. Maintains required documentation of patient care and unit activities in accordance with standards.
  5. Clarify any order or treatment regimen that the nurse has reason to believe is inaccurate, non-efficacious or contraindicated by consulting with the appropriate licensed practitioner and notifying the ordering practitioner when the nurse makes the decision not to administer the medication or treatment.
  6. Performs daily nursing groups as directed by the treatment team.

     

Required Education and Experience

Graduate of an accredited nursing program         

3-5 years’ experience required.   

Required License/Certifications

Current RN License in the state of Texas.

BLS Certification, SAMA certification, Abuse and Neglect, and

Unit specific competencies obtained within 30 days of hire or transfer date.
