Department Highlights

- Robust Unit Based Council (UBC) and engaged leadership team
- Fast paced 23 bed Observation Unit with an average patient stay of 24-48 hours, primarily serves patients with chest pain/rule out, MI, COPD, Dehydration, Syncope, UTI, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, allergic reaction and cellulitis among others.
- Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program or Nursing Diploma required
- BSN preferred
- One-year experience as a clinical nurse in acute care setting required
- One year of Emergency experience strongly preferred
- RN must practice within the regulations of the Texas Nurse Practice Act, serve as a role model, intra/interdisciplinary collaborator and coordinator for quality patient care
- BLS prior to providing independent patient care and maintained quarterly
- ACLS within 90 days of hire required
- CPI within 90 days of hire required
Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process
- Assesses the patient
- Plans the care of the patient
- Intervenes as appropriate
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
- Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
- Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
- Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.
