Director of Nursing Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality resident care in accordance with federal, state, and company standards.

Key responsibilities include:

Providing leadership and oversight for the nursing department
Managing day-to-day clinical operations in the skilled nursing facility
Ensuring compliance with CMS regulations, state regulations, and facility policies
Leading survey readiness efforts and maintaining regulatory compliance
Supervising, coaching, and developing nursing staff
Monitoring quality measures, infection prevention, and clinical outcomes
Collaborating with physicians, therapists, families, and interdisciplinary teams
Participating in admissions and resident care planning
Managing staffing, scheduling oversight, and nursing department performance
Supporting employee retention and team engagement
Serving as the clinical leader and role model for the facility
Assuming operational responsibilities in the Administrator’s absence when needed

Qualifications

Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program
Minimum of 2 years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience
Long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred
Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and survey processes
Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills
Ability to lead clinical teams with professionalism and accountability
