Director of Nursing Responsibilities
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing all clinical operations and ensuring the delivery of high-quality resident care in accordance with federal, state, and company standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing leadership and oversight for the nursing department
- Managing day-to-day clinical operations in the skilled nursing facility
- Ensuring compliance with CMS regulations, state regulations, and facility policies
- Leading survey readiness efforts and maintaining regulatory compliance
- Supervising, coaching, and developing nursing staff
- Monitoring quality measures, infection prevention, and clinical outcomes
- Collaborating with physicians, therapists, families, and interdisciplinary teams
- Participating in admissions and resident care planning
- Managing staffing, scheduling oversight, and nursing department performance
- Supporting employee retention and team engagement
- Serving as the clinical leader and role model for the facility
- Assuming operational responsibilities in the Administrator’s absence when needed
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited nursing program
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing leadership or supervisory experience
- Long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of CMS regulations and survey processes
- Proven leadership, communication, and team-building skills
- Ability to lead clinical teams with professionalism and accountability
