Student Nurse Contract

Overview

We are seeking Student Nurse Extern, someone who is looking to get real experience while going to school for a nursing program. The Student Nurse Extern is an adjunct to the patient care team. The Student Nurse Extern performs at the level that has successfully been completed and passed in the clinical section at a local college. Under the general supervision of an RN the extern provides direct patient care in accordance with the established protocols, the skills they are able to perform are expanded. This position is on a per diem basis, meaning PD/PRN as needed but will work around your clinicals and school schedules.

**All newly hired externs will first function in the capacity of a nursing assistant, regardless of their nursing program clinical level. When the student has been cleared by the Supervisor, they may be moved to their appropriate skill level. 

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Basic Patient Care: Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, feeding, toileting, and ambulating patients 
  • Vital Signs Monitoring: Measure and record vital signs including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation 
  • Assisting with Procedures: Support nurses during procedures by preparing supplies, positioning patients, or providing comfort care 
  • Communication: Interact with patients and families to provide reassurance and relay information to the care team
  • Learning Opportunities: Observe and learn clinical skills, nursing judgment, and hospital workflows under the guidance of a preceptor

  • Successfully completed the first semester of a nursing program
  • Must be in good and academic standing
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) and maintain current
