What does the Travel Float Registered Nurse (RN) do? The Float Pool RN provides professional nursing care in alignment with national standards, company guidelines, and the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. You’ll serve as a clinical resource and liaison while adapting quickly to diverse assignments. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities: Assessing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating patient care. Conducting health assessments, obtaining patient histories, and providing education. Offering psychosocial support to patients and families. Safely preparing and administering therapies (medications, blood products) in accordance with governing standards. Performing venipuncture, accessing ports, and maintaining central lines. Monitoring labs, facilitating dose modifications per protocol, and consulting with providers for orders. Managing triage calls, symptom management, and medication management with accurate documentation. Assisting patients in accessing community resources. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience: Education/Training Level I Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Entry-level 0-3 years nursing experience, one (1) year strongly preferred for float pool Flexibility, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills to thrive in diverse clinical environments. Excellent critical thinking and communication abilities. Comfort supporting multiple areas of oncology care, with interest in developing skills in subspecialties such as Gyn Onc, BMT, or Pediatrics. Must maintain continuing education requirements. Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) or prior oncology/infusion/radiation experience preferred. Strong IV and central line skills preferred.
