Summary:

The Medical Assistant I role functions under the clinical supervision of the Physician/Advanced Practice Provider in a primary care practice. This individual assists in the preparation and delivery of patient care as directed by the provider(s) and other licensed clinical personnel. Clinical duties are skillfully and consistently performed per established clinical policy and procedure.

Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma required.

  • Required: Either a graduate of an accredited MA school OR a current MA certification.

  • Front and back medical office experience preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:

  • National certification preferred.

  • Current CPR certification required.

Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 8:00am to 5:00pm

Responsibilities This role supports physicians and clinical staff by performing a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care. Key Responsibilities: Prepare exam rooms and assist providers with patient examinations and minor procedures. Record patient medical histories, vital signs, and chief complaints accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Apply and remove orthopedic devices such as splints, braces, and casts under provider supervision. Provide patient education on preoperative and post-operative care, and medication instructions. The MA-Float may be asked to provide coverage outside of their primary center. Duties/Responsibilities: Conduct intake with patients, measuring and recording vital signs, patient interview, and medical history; perform examinations and routine screenings, ensuring patients are informed and all questions and concerns are addressed for each procedure. Critically listen and engage with patients throughout appointment, ensuring needs and/or changing in patient conditions are reported to PCP, specialists, and/or other clinical personnel. Perform all tasks with a hyper focus on patient experience, including processing of patient phone messages, including returning calls; routing calls to other team members as appropriate; calling patients to obtain and relay pertinent information for the physician. Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures and other first aid procedures; use CPR skills, when necessary, all under physician supervision. Ensure compliance with OSHA safety standards and conduct accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times. Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices; follows up with coached patients via weekly calls.
