Main Function
The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The RN is expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director.
Duties And Responsibilities
Current NYS nursing licensure, limited permit or eligible. Excellent communication skills and writing ability.
Physical Demands
Appreciable physical effort required; lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various size, capabilities and abilities. Some lifting, reaching, and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.

Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform continuous, thorough physiologic, psychological, and cognitive assessments for laboring patients.
- Develop individualized nursing diagnoses and patient-centered care plans, including expected outcomes.
- Provide safe, skillful, compassionate care throughout labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum periods.
- Document all patient care accurately, concisely, and in a timely manner.
- Respond effectively to obstetric emergencies, following protocols and maintaining composure.
- Educate patients and families on care plans, expectations, and postpartum needs.
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure coordinated care.
- Utilize resources appropriately, prioritizing patient needs and maintaining safety at all times.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, quality improvement initiatives, and unit goals.
