Description:

The selected candidate will provide knowledgeable, safe and effective care to patients during intraoperative period, and effectively interact with patients and health care team members while maintaining the surgical department standards. Additionally, will ensure knowledgeable and appropriate decontamination, cleaning and sterilization of surgical instrumentation.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
  • Surgical Technology Certification required within 6 months of hire
  • BLS certification required
  • Certification in Central Sterile Processing preferred
  • At least 1 year experience preferred

Hours:

This is a full-time position requiring eight (8) hours a day, Monday - Friday. On call responsibility for other shifts, holidays, and weekends as assigned. May work other hours for the effective operation of the department.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs a variety of duties in an operating room observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations. Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures. Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment. Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy. Assists with precepting new technical personnel. Attends in-services and mandatory meetings. Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient. Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in an operative procedure. Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills check list. Work Experience MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education: Completion of Health First’s On-The-Job Training Program for Surgical Technician, OR graduate of a program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College, or School for Surgical Technology), OR one year of work experience as a surgical tech or surgical assistant Licensure: None Certification: Must hold American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain. MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS Education: Requirements for Practicing Surgical Technology in the State of Texas (per Texas H.B. 643-Chapter 259): Education/Certification: Has successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical Technologist and holds and maintains certification as a surgical technologist by: a) the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor; b) the National Center for Competency Testing or its successor; c) another surgical technologist certification program approved by the department; OR Has completed an appropriate training program for surgical technology in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States or in the United States Public Health Service.
