Certified Surgical Technologist Job Summary:

As a vital member of our surgical team, the Certified Surgical Technologist assists with the nursing care of the patient in the operating room by performance of routine and delegated duties according to policies and standards of the hospital and department.

Certified Surgical Technologist Responsibilities:

  • Scrubs and sets up instrumentation.
  • Maintains aseptic technique at all times.
  • Maintains awareness of safety hazards and use of equipment to prevent damages or harm to personnel and patient.
  • Assists with and anticipates the needs of the surgeon for instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies.
  • Maintains correct count of sponges and needles with the circulating nurse and reports correctness and discrepancies.
  • Observes and protects the patient before, during, and after the procedure.
  • Covers call as policy dictates.
  • Flexibility in adjusting duty hours to meet needs of department.


Certified Surgical Technologist Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High School diploma required.
  • Completion of approved Operating Room Technician Program required.
  • Certification as Operating Room Technician required.


Certified Surgical Technologist Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Assists the surgeon as scrub technician according to established policies and standards.
  • Assists the circulating RN as necessary.
  • Assists in maintenance, care and cleanliness of supplies and surgical suite.
  • Covers call as assigned.
  • Maintains and increases standards of performance and education.
