Overview

The Registered Nurse requires substantial specialized knowledge, judgement and nursing skills based upon the

principles of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences in the application of the nursing process in

the respective departments in which assigned. The RN must collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary

team members; provide physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; supervising

assigned team members and students.

Responsibilities

1) Completes patient assessments, formulates plan of care, oversees implementation of plan of care, evaluate

and adjust plan of care utilizing critical thinking skills

2) The performance of other nursing acts which are authorized or limited by the board, and which are consistent

either with American Nursing’s Association Standards of Practice or with Standards of Practice established by

nationally accepted organizations of registered nurses.

3) Care, counsel health teaching and promotion, utilizes Teach Back methodology as affirmation of

comprehension

4) The administration of medication, intravenous therapy and treatment as prescribed by a LIP

5) Supervision, delegation and follow-through to other personnel in the performance of activities relating to

nursing care.

6) Mentors and precepts students and orient new staff as assigned

7) Reports up chain of command Clinical Nurse Manager/Nurse Manager/House Nurse Coordinator pertinent

information

8) Participates on various teams, committees or performance improvement initiatives

9) Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, coworkers and self

10) Participates in Discharge Planning and Transition of Care (able to define pt needs)

11) Serves as a patient advocate and escalates patient related concerns timely

12) Timely documents pertinent findings in medical record

13) Assist patients in performing activities of daily living and functions as an active team member

Overview The Staff Nurse is accountable for interpreting the plan of Medical care, assessment of patients clinical decision-making regarding nursing care, assuring nursing care is provided in a safe and competent manner, providing individualized nursing care, and evaluating nursing care for groups of patients. Special Instructions Flexible PRN Registered Nurse to support both day shift (7A–7P) and night shift (7P–7A) staffing needs on the Medical-Surgical Unit. Availability to work a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Responsibilities Takes report from prior shift and gives report to oncoming shift which includes condition of patients, diagnosis, treatments, procedures given and required and other aspects of the plan of care. Performs assessments and reassessments of patients. Reviews ancillary service reports, communicates abnormal results to physicians, and notifies supervisor and physician when ancillary services are not completed. Interprets plan of medical care, evaluates patients, and devises patient plan of care. Maintains proper control of medicine, equipment and supplies specific to the assigned unit. Clinical Nurse Educator

Overview Under the guidance of the AVP of Nursing Education and Professional Practice and System Chief Nursing Officer, the Clinical Nurse Educator functions in the roles of Educator, Facilitator, Consultant, Change Agent, and Leader. The Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) participates in the development of standardized educational initiatives across the Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) organization and plays a vital role in leading change in pursuit of improved nursing practice and professional development. The Clinical Nurse Educator promotes a positive image and maintains positive relationships with internal and external customers. The Clinical Nurse Educator may be required to travel to other ARH facilities to provide education, under the direction of the AVP of Nursing Education and Professional Practice. Responsibilities Conducts educational needs assessments using a variety of methods/tools. Incorporates principles of adult learning in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, creating a climate with supports learning across the organization. Coordinates and facilitates nursing orientation and competency evaluation of new staff to the organization, and well as training/education for new equipment and new/revised clinical care policies and protocols.
