Responsibilities*

Reporting directly to the Chief Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA), assist in management of daily CRNA operational functions. Establish collaborative/consultative relationships with key health care professionals and administrative personnel. Contribute to the delivery of clear and timely communications, assist in resolution of daily issues, and leverage human resource management through tools such as lean healthcare practices and employee recognition and promotion. Provide collaborative and consultant support to other hospital disciplines including Surgical, Medical, Peri-operative and Post-operative services. Assist the Chief CRNA in implementation of quality patient standards and guidelines in compliance with organizational and departmental policies. Collaborate with the Chief CRNA and Clinical Director University Hospital, Cardiovascular Center and Pavilion (UH/CVC/PAV) Operating Rooms (OR) to identify and anticipate operational and financial impacts of long-term resource and scheduling needs. In accordance with staffing levels set by the Clinical Director UH/CVC/PAV ORs in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, assure appropriate CRNA work schedules are achieved. Assist the Chief Department Administrator (CDA) with operational and financial tracking and management. Assess and provide input on matters of commodity and equipment procurement and utilization. Assist CRNA leadership as delegated by Chief CRNA. Maintain current knowledge of Joint Commission Standards (TJC), American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) standards, and all state and federal regulations and evaluate/assure compliance.

Provide administrative and functional supervision over CRNA staff. Professionally assist the Chief CRNA in the supervision and management of the CRNAs, assist with daily workforce supervision and direction, as delegated. Provide functional and administrative oversight to the CRNA charge in addition to supporting the CRNA charge function. Manage CRNA PTO processes in accordance with guidelines from the Health System, the Clinical Director UH/CVC/PAV ORs and the collective bargaining agreement.

Participate in the selection, evaluation, counseling, coaching and/or mentor of the aforementioned personnel. Clinical time determined in collaboration with the Chief CRNA. Any other duties as assigned.

Monitor and assess daily OR operational workflow. Administer anesthesia (to all patients regardless of age) and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic or surgical procedures under the medical direction of an Anesthesiologist. Prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations. Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan together with the Anesthesiologist. Initiate and maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care. Maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation. Complete pre and postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies. Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines. Maintain licensure, certification, and current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) status. This position requires radiation exposure and the requirement to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be able to fulfill weekend/night work and call obligations. Must be self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and demonstrate excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Required Qualifications*

Graduate of an Accredited Nurse Anesthesia program.

Current license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan and current State of Michigan certification as a Nurse Anesthetist (or achievable)

Current certification by the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists

Must successfully complete the credentialing and privileging process by the Medical Staff Credentials Committee

Continuous five years of adult nurse anesthesia experience within the past 64 months

Successful completion of BLS and ACLS with the ability to provide evidence of current certification

Must wear the appropriate PPE, as this position requires radiation exposure and the requirement to wear the appropriate PPE

Current and accurate resume and application of both internal and external applicants must be completed to be considered and interviewed

NOTE: Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be fully considered and interviewed for the position; hire offer will be contingent upon satisfaction of all required qualifications including successful completion of the credentialing process.

Desired Qualifications*

Working knowledge of current UH/CVC/PAV hospital anesthesia OR operating challenges and issues.

Demonstrated ability to function effectively in the Anesthesia Care Team Model.

Written professional references from immediate CRNA Manager and Anesthesia Physician department head detailing positive professional and performance experience.

Previous years of CRNA experience

Doctoral degree; PhD, DNP, DrAP

Evidence of successful leadership ability in the following areas: interpersonal, verbal and written communication, collaboration, problem-solving skills, communicating expectations, leading by example, promoting effective conflict resolution and building cohesive teams.

Demonstrates effective time management and organizational skills.

Ability to accept and initiate change in workplace design.

Previous successful project management.

Demonstrates strong patient advocacy.

Experience in evidence-based practice.

Previous success in a health care environment leadership role with demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.

Previous committee participation.

Participation in new employee/SRNA orientation/mentorship.

Previous years of RN nursing experience.

This is a full-time exempt position

Day/evening/night shift coverage.
