MAIN FUNCTION:


A caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients under the supervision/direction of a registered nurse. Reports to the Director of Department to which assigned.



EDUCATION:


Graduate of a Practical Nursing Program registered by the New York State Education or by the licensing authority of another state.




CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:


Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date. Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required in critical care units.




PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


Appreciable physical effort required. Moving, lifting and assisting patients whose size and physical abilities can vary greatly. Some lifting, reaching and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.

Licensed Practical Nurse - Nursing Unit - Per Diem

Position Summary: Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in accordance with nursing standards of care and practice under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Maintains collaborative relationships with other nursing staff members, physicians and ancillary staff to provide this care. Maintains an appropriate level of knowledge and clinical skill through continuing education/in-services and self‐study activities. Education, License & Cert: LPN - Must be licensed in the state of Practice Experience: For those that will be working in PA, the individual must have completed the IV therapy curriculum requirements as noted in the Pennsylvania Code, Section 21.203. If not completed at the time of hire, the individual must complete a Board‐ approved, LPN IV Therapy Education Program prior to independently practicing IV therapy. In addition, the staff LPN must meet individual nursing unit specifications regarding educational requirements during employment. Must maintain CPR certification. Essential Functions: 1. Works collaboratively with and under the direction of a Registered Nurse. A. Demonstrates the ability to communicate observations of patient to members of the healthcare team. B. Supports the philosophy and objectives of the nursing department. 2. Assists the Registered Nurse with nursing process. A. Participates in patient data collection, including the admission process. B. Experience: One‐year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required Essential Functions: 1. Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart. Will also interview patient to obtain history allergies, reconciles medication list and records on chart as requested. 2. Write or call Rx after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed. Chart as written in patient’s chart 3. Email, fax or call in any insurance referrals. Follow up phone call with referral number to specialist if requested. 4. Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistant and MOA’s as requested.
