Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Patient Care Technician/Certified Nursing Assistant (PCT/CNA) provides appropriate safe basic care to patients which includes taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, and observation of patients for physical/emotional changes. Other duties include recording pertinent information in patient charts, communicating with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care, and may function in a role providing constant supervision to patients as needed. Duties may vary according to department expectations and needs.

Licenses/Certifications:

American Heart Associate BLS for healthcare provider CPR
Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Work, OR; EMT-B, License in the State of Illinois

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

6 or more months experience in a clinical healthcare environment
Able to communicate effectively in person; by telephone; and computer messaging
6 or more months experience in supporting physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of patients

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, with direction from the Registered Nurse, this position is responsible for providing high quality, individualized basic care activities as identified by the RN, using the components of the nursing process. Performing duties in a manner that provides for the physical, psycho-social and spiritual needs of the patient including performing basic patient care activities. Incorporates cultural and ethnic factors into patient care activities within the limitation of the job, correctly differentiating and reporting normal and abnormal findings with direction from the RN and incorporates the functional/developmental age into these activities for the adolescent through geriatric patient population.
