Responsibilities

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) is responsible for providing appropriate nursing care, as directed by an RN on the nursing unit. Functions include gathering and reporting data, carrying out orders, and performing therapeutic procedures on patients in an age and population-appropriate manner, consistent with the policies, procedures, and guidelines of PAM Health. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

Education and Training: Holds current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) in the state where the hospital resides, or compact licensure if state participates. Current BLS certification required. BLS certification must be AHA approved within 90 days of employment.

 

  • Current IV Certification within 90 days of employment, if required per state  regulations.

 

Experience: One year of inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience preferred but not required

Measures and documents vitals and communicates the resulting data to the consumer and provider, including temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation, respiration, blood pressure, height, weight, and pain level. Documents chief complaint, allergies, health history, and current medications accurately in EPIC for review by provider. Performs and documents laboratory testing and collections per provider orders and/or standard operating procedures, to include venipuncture with prior venipuncture competency check-off. Administers and documents oral and intramuscular medication using the appropriate medication verification workflow. If a medical assistant, then may perform injections with the appropriate competency checkoff Assists provider with procedures to include, but not limited to maintaining sterile field, laceration repair, I&D, and application of ortho-goods and assists with ortho-glass application.
