Staff Nurse (50%; M-F Dayshift; Part-Time) - Nursing Radiology

Sign-on incentive: Qualified candidates are eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $10,000 based on years of experience.

The University of Iowa Health Care department of Radiology is seeking a Staff Nurse to assess patients' nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team to maintain patient care standards.

Duties Include

  • Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness.
  • Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations.
  • Coordinates the continuum of care across settings.
  • Provides pre, intra- and post procedure nursing care (assessment, monitoring, intervention and education) related to diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Assists in the collection of arterial and venous blood samples.
  • Conducts procedural sedation including administering medication, patient monitoring, patient transport, recovery, provide patient and family education training, and patient follow up information.
  • Prepares daily patient workup for next day scheduled patients.
  • Accurately completes, documents, and files required daily/nightly/monthly equipment checks and audits.
  • Acts as resource for the other modalities within Radiology as needed.
  • Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, which includes interventions identified through nursing diagnoses. Documents/reports interventions and patient/family response/education.
  • Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan.
  • Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout episode of care.
  • Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain safe environment for patients, visitors and staff. Follows universal precautions.
  • Demonstrates acceptance of responsibility; pride in work performed; flexibility in acceptance of assignments while consistently maintaining professional behavior and appearance.
  • Follows policies and procedures in accordance with regulations set forth by the University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Nursing, Department of Radiology, and the University of Iowa.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Educational Requirements

  • An Associate degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate degree in Nursing, or master’s degree in Nursing (MNHP or MSN).


Experience Requirements

  • 1 year of current nursing experience or recent nursing graduate within last 6 months.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and limited resources.
  • Demonstration of strong organizational skills and time management.
  • Demonstrated competency in conscious sedation administration, patient management, recovery, and EKG interpretation.


Certification Requirements

  • Current license to practice nursing in Iowa.
  • BLS Certification.
  • ACLS Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.


Desired Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ experience with procedural sedation.
  • Demonstrated competency in conscious sedation administration, patient management, recovery, and EKG interpretation.
  • Critical care nursing experience.
  • Professional nursing certification.
