Job Description
Job Function: 01. ASSESSMENT: Appropriately admits patients following proper patient identification procedure Performs patient assessment that is systemic, comprehensive and accurate with complete documentation. Assesses chart findings and physical status of each patient, reporting abnormal findings to the physicians. Assesses for needs of the patient and significant others/family. Explains to the patient and their family members the important processes they will need to know while they are a patient here. Identifies patients and/or families most in need of personal assistance, and/or helps in resolving issues with distressed customers.
Job Function: 02. DIAGNOSIS Identifies patient needs and problems. Analyzes assessment data to determine relevant patient diagnosis.
Job Function: 03. PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION Plans for the nursing care of patient utilizing ANA and SGNA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice. Performs ongoing assessment as patient’s condition warrants. Initiates collaboration with other health care team members to meet changing patient needs. Advocates for the patient. Integrates learning, cultural, and emotional needs of the patient and family in the plan of care. Integrates and implements nursing practice across the continuum of care. Maintains open lines of communication with personnel in all areas to maintain maximum efficiency while respecting the privacy and confidentiality of others.
Job Function: 04. EVALUATION Evaluates effectiveness of intervention and revises Plan of Care as appropriate. Evaluates individualized patient goals by utilizing established policies and standards of care. Ensures pain assessment and re assessment is performed and documented as per policy.
Job Function: 05. DOCUMENTATION Documents legibly and accurately in completing the patient chart. Documents all patient/ family teaching interventions and responses. Documents patient responses to all medical and nursing interventions as per nursing standards.
Job Function: 06. COLLABORATION Acts as a patient advocate and assures that a patients’ rights are respected. Promotes an environment where the patient and family is at the center and the patient care team works cooperatively toward their goal and objectives. Collaborates with physicians and other specialty caregivers to optimize patient and family care. Initiates and maintains an open line of communication with patients and their families to expedite delays, cares for their concerns or notifies charge nurse about unresolved problems needing resolution. Assures efficient turnaround time between cases, demonstrating organizational skills and priority setting. Participates in Peer Review Process and in Unit Based Shared Governance.
Job Function: 07. EDUCATION Orients and educates new staff members as to proper use of equipment and department policies and procedures. Demonstrates professional practice responsibility; fulfills mandatory education obligations. Identifies areas for clinical and professional growth. Attends pertinent educational offerings. Shows initiative to obtain information on new equipment and technology. Role models patient care activities, tasks, and behaviors to advance practice of endoscopy technician.
Job Function: 08. SAFETY Recognizes emergency situation and reacts appropriately. Maintains a safe clean patient care environment. Demonstrates knowledge and proper administration of medication. Maintains sterile field and adheres to standards for sterile procedures, if applicable. Assists with proper collection, labeling and processing of specimens as directed by physician. Is aware of their surroundings while maintaining focus on patient care avoiding distractions. Maintains all equipment as per policy and procedure and recognizes and reports any hazardous situation to supervisor.
Job Function: 09. EQUIPMENT FUNCTION. Anticipates, provides and utilizes proper instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Maintains orderly and proper functioning and storage of equipment. Assures proper disinfection technique, as per Infection Control Committee and department policy, on all instruments and equipment used in department. Possesses knowledge to assemble / disassemble all equipment used in department.
Job Function: 10. COST CONTAINMENT Offers constructive suggestions regarding cost containment to leadership and follows hospital-based initiatives to reduce cost. Provides accurately charting of patients procedure and charge slip to ensure time revenue stream. Voluntarily seeks other duties when own assignment is completed. Responsibly signs in and out at designated times as per AHS policy. Demonstrates flexibility and responsibility in meeting staff needs of the unit.
Other Tasks Which May be Required: LEADERSHIP Demonstrates professional behavior and problem-solving techniques. Adapts to change by originating own ideas while making leadership aware of initiatives. Demonstrates competence and willingness to function in a leadership role. Delegates patient care to others with an understanding of their role, knowledge, competencies. Assumes Charge nurse role as needed and facilitates cases and ensures efficient patient throughput.

- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
- BLS certification.
- 2-3 yrs. endoscopy experience or inpatient hospital.
