What are the typical hours on the job?

The hours of operation for the OBGYN- Shoal Creek clinic are Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. Your primary schedule will be during those hours, with periodic need to work outside your schedule to serve our patients.

What does a Nurse Practitioner do?

Nurse Practitioners provide healthcare and perform selective medical services under the direction of physicians.

What does a typical day on the job look like?

Competently assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients.
Assists physicians by maximizing patient volume, monitoring and contacting high risk patients, returning patient calls in a timely manner, and providing follow up on diagnostic test results.
Develops with the patient and/or caregivers, a mutually acceptable cost-aware plan of care that maximizes health potential. Formulates a treatment plan which includes ordering diagnostic tests, selecting appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions, develops a patient education plan, and obtains appropriate consultation or referral. Consults with physician appropriately regarding patient care issues and concerns.
Demonstrates productivity and initiative by organizing patient care, delegating to appropriate staff, prioritizing workload, and seeking opportunities to improve clinical processes and staff/patient education.

What are the requirements for the job?

Master’s degree in nursing and maintain board/association certification
Licensed by the state of Missouri as a Registered Nurse to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner
2 years’ experience as Nurse Practitioner in clinic specialty
Current BLS through American Heart Association
Basic office skills

General Cardiology and Heart Failure Advanced Practice Provider

Job Description This Cardiology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position is a full time role covering general cardiology and heart failure with the primary patient population being adult. Inpatient responsibilities will include general cardiology rounding at St. Luke’s South. Outpatient responsibilities will consist of heart failure clinics at both St. Luke’s South and St. Luke’s Hospital (Plaza). The schedule is Monday through Friday and consists of four 10-hour shifts (7:30 AM to 5:30 PM) each week, with one variable day off. There is a weekend and holiday commitment for this role. The employee will be responsible for the medical management of the Cardiology patient population within the scope of an Advanced Practice Provider. The term Advanced Practice Provider encompasses Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Nurse Specialists. The employee will have successfully completed a Master’s degree (or higher level of educational program) and have met the requirements for the respective State Board(s) (Missouri and Kansas). The APP will hold and maintain a national certification and licensure as required by State Boards and BJC-Saint Luke’s Health System, as well as other certification as obligatory for this role. Cardiology disease processes the APP will be expected to accurately diagnose and treat include general cardiology with a focus subspecialized patient population of heart failure in the clinic setting. Skills required of this role will include but may not be limited to the following: Utilizes prescriptive authority in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations Obtains and documents relevant problem focused or comprehensive history from patient/medical records in a timely manner Communicates effectively using appropriate terminology, format, and technology in accordance with health system policies Analyzes data to determine health status Communicates effectively with other healthcare professionals Performs an accurate physical exam Demonstrates basic science and up to date clinical knowledge Establishes a patient relationship characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration Takes initiative for seeking opportunities to advance knowledge and experiences Flexibility with scheduled rotations / locations as needed to ensure patient needs are met Role duties may include but are not limited to: Completion of admissions, consultations, subsequent day visits and discharges in the inpatient setting Independent practice in the outpatient clinic and/or inpatient setting and collaborating with physician(s) as appropriate Ordering and management of appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies This role may require training and competency for procedures applicable to the department of hire.
