UVA Health

Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatric Emergency Department

$39.90 - $53 / hour

Step into a role where your clinical expertise directly shapes outcomes for children and families at their most critical moments. As a Pediatric Emergency Nurse at UVA Health, you will practice at the intersection of precision, compassion, and urgency, delivering specialized care in a setting built exclusively for pediatric patients.

In this role, you will join a dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department designed to meet the unique needs of patients from infancy through young adulthood. You will work alongside a highly skilled, collaborative team in an environment that prioritizes evidence-based pediatric emergency care, rapid response, and family-centered practice.

The Role:

As a Registered Nurse in UVA Health’s Pediatric Emergency Department, your day is dynamic, fast-paced, and deeply impactful. You will care for pediatric patients across a wide range of acuity levels in a setting specifically designed to support specialized pediatric emergency care separate from the adult environment.

On a typical shift, you will:

  • Deliver comprehensive emergency nursing care to patients under 21, including triage, assessment, intervention, and evaluation

  • Collaborate closely with pediatric emergency physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Respond to high-acuity and time-sensitive conditions, utilizing advanced clinical judgment and rapid decision-making

  • Provide family-centered care, engaging and educating caregivers during stressful and often emotional situations

  • Administer medications, initiate protocols, and support procedures with a strong emphasis on safety and pediatric-specific best practices

  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning and clinical excellence, leveraging UVA Health’s academic environment

This is a role defined by both clinical complexity and meaningful connection, where every interaction has the potential to make a lasting difference.

  • Dedicated Pediatric Emergency Unit separate from adult emergency services, enabling focused, age-appropriate care delivery

  • Part of UVA Health Children’s services, which emphasize comprehensive, specialized pediatric care across disciplines

  • A Magnet-recognized culture supporting nursing excellence, professional growth, and shared governance

  • Opportunities to engage in academic medicine, research, and ongoing clinical education

  • A collaborative, team-driven environment that values interdisciplinary respect and communication

  • Access to advanced technologies and protocols that support high-quality, evidence-based emergency care.

Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
