A transformational leader responsible for supporting the nurse manager in administrative duties of the unit, especially during off shifts. The Assistant Nurse Manager will provide leadership by collaborating with members of the health care team to maintain standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. Participates in organizational and unit based quality improvement activities, and provide input on standards of care. Must provide patient care on an as needed basis and maintain clinical competencies with the potential for weekly patient care shift assignments. Supervises care provided by maintaining high visibility to patients/families and staff in the clinical area(s). Under general direction: The Utilization Management RN serves as a leader resource in the Utilization Management process. They collaborate with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to promote and adhere to regulatory compliance. The UM RN conducts initial concurrent and retrospective medical necessity reviews. All Utilization Management activities are performed in accordance with the mission vision and values of UVA Medical Center. Under general direction, utilizes clinical expertise, programming and informatics knowledge, and strategic insight to design, optimize, and maintain clinical information systems within the Health System. Helps identify the clinical data requirements of the patients across the Healthcare System as it relates to institutional strategic goals for Quality and Safety. Ensures delivery of Trauma Center data to the American College of Surgeons, Virginia Department of Health and internal departments to maintain the Level I Trauma Center certification. Oversees the research data components for the trauma program. Responsible for the completion of the monthly dashboard reports and specific performance improvement reports outlined by the Director of Trauma or Trauma Medical Director. Responsible for the oversight and management of the trauma registry with the goal of providing timely, accurate, reliable and accountable data to assist in decision-making for the trauma center. Responsible for the data validation for all submissions to the State EMS / Trauma Registry, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Trauma Data Bank and the ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP). Directly responsible for the trauma registry and reports on files for assigned projects. Aggregates, analyzes, interprets and trends data. Ensures the accuracy and timely entry of data into the database through scheduled data scrubbing reports that are distributed to the trauma registrars. This activity ensures the hospital follows all standards as they relate to Joint Commission, American College of Surgeons and National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB). Coordinates and submits the defined data submissions to TQIP, NTDB and VDH in timely manner based on the requirements of each organization. Trauma database point person for Trauma Registry staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues with the database to facilitate quality data collection. Serves as the educational coordinator for teaching/updating the trauma registrars of changes in data collection due to NTDB updates, research projects or quality initiatives. Liaison with the trauma database vendor and implements the necessary data filed changes to reflect the need of the Trauma Service as identified by the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Director. Informs the Trauma Program Director and Trauma Medical Director of any concerns regarding inaccurate data collection or data sources. Maintains the data dictionary in our database by updating the electronic reference fields as changes are identified. Responsible for writing and handling of data requests from the data registry in compliance with the department policy.
