The PICU is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our team in Wilmington, DE.This is a 36-hr/wk nightshift position.

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Nemours Children's Health, Delaware is a 24-bed unit in a Level 1 Trauma Center. Patients requiring care and surveillance in the PICU will have conditions and diagnoses which may include, but are not limited to, those producing: acute and reversible loss of consciousness, respiratory failure, compromised air exchange, cardiovascular dysfunction, hepatic failure, hemodynamic instability, renal dysfunction, central nervous system injury or dysfunction, acute trauma and organ failure requiring transplantation.

Treatments or interventions performed in the PICU include measures utilizing advanced life support technology. These include, but are not limited to cardiopulmonary resuscitation, tracheal intubation, ECMO, pharmacologic support of circulation, mechanical ventilation, point of care monitoring, CRRT, thoracentesis, and hemodynamic, intracranial pressure, intravascular monitoring.

Each patient room has electrocardiographic, pulse oximetry, respiratory, hemodynamic and intracranial pressure monitoring capability, as well as central EKG and respiratory monitoring. Portable monitoring during patient transport is provided.

Special equipment includes radiant warmer beds, heating/cooling blanket systems, Mapleson manual ventilation system, end tidal CO2 monitors, ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring systems, intracranial pressure monitoring system, ventriculostomy systems, infusion pumps, blood warmer, continuous renal replacement systems, and peripheral nerve stimulators.

Requirements

  • Be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred.
  • Experienced pediatric intensive care nurse of at least 2 years preferred.
  • Current Delaware or Multistate Compact License
  • Must be CPR certified by the American Heart Association. PALS and ACLS preferred.
  • Certifications: CCRN preferred

A Brief Overview This is for the Philadelphia Campus PACU. Full time, Rotating schedule, with two to three years pediatric experience or area of pre and post-operative experience preferred. The Peri-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) encompasses 46 private rooms, which include a procedure room and dental room. The PACU provides preoperative and postoperative care to all types of surgical patients and to those patients receiving general anesthesia in other departments in CHOP and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. These services are provided 24/7 through in-house coverage or an on-call system. The Clinical Nurse practices at the level of an advanced beginner to expert practitioner of professional nursing in accordance with, and guided by the CHOP Nursing Professional Practice Model. The nurse at this level demonstrates competence in caring for patients and families and progresses to caring for those with the most complex problems/highest acuity in the designated clinical area. Provides age/developmentally appropriate care. Care is delivered through RN leadership for patient care within the framework of family-centered care. The Clinical Nurse adheres to the organizational and nursing department mission, vision, and values. Clinical Nurses practice in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics; the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice; practice standards of applicable specialty nursing organizations; and CHOP developed standards of nursing practice.
