RN - Registered Nurse Position Overview:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) Team Leader team members assist in the ensuring the general health and well-being of our residents by providing direct nursing care.
  • This position is responsible for the direct nursing care of residents which encompasses planning, developing, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the care of residents to ensure that the highest degree of quality care and regulatory compliance is maintained at all times.

Responsibilities

(RN - Registered Nurse):

  • Direct and monitor the personal care duties and nursing care procedures carried out by Nursing Assistants of the assigned team.
  • Assist Nursing Assistants with direct care of residents, as necessary.
  • Report to RN Unit Manager/Assistant Unit Manager or Charge RN Supervisor unusual symptoms, changes of condition, daily needs, and progress of residents.
  • Follow the Plan of Care for each resident, and monitor the performance of Nursing Assistants in implementation of the care plan.
  • Receive controlled substances from the shift Supervisory Nurse and is responsible for all aspects of the storage and distribution of these medications; ensure proper and safe placement and use of medications stored in medication cart, stock medication cupboards, medication room refrigerator and narcotic cabinets.
  • Document as applicable in the care plans, Nursing Notes, Medical Administration Records, Treatment Records and other required records.
  • Monitor resident care standards during performance of duties, and encourage that rights of residents and preferences in care and treatment are respected.

Duties Description Independently performs the duties below: Conducts nursing assessments; and obtains, records, and updates individuals’ health information and vital signs, using standard instruments and procedures. Prepares, implements, and modifies nursing care plans; prepares individuals for and/or assists with examinations and treatments; and administers medications and nursing procedures to individuals, as prescribed Observes, monitors, and records individuals’ symptoms, conditions, and care, including diet and physical activity; and identifies and reports individuals’ responses to medication or changes in health status. Serves as the nursing representative on a treatment team; provides information on nursing needs; and consults and coordinates with treatment teams and other health care disciplines to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate individuals’ care. Makes clinical rounds to assess individuals’ nursing care needs and observe and participate in the provision of nursing services. Provides health teaching, counseling, and education to individuals, families, and other groups; and develops health improvement programs. POSITION SPECIFIC DUTIES may include but are not limited to: Provide nursing services to assigned caseloads as directed by nursing supervision; This RN will provide nursing oversight to residential caseloads on an as needed basis to approximately 20 developmentally disabled individuals who are medically and/or have increased psychiatric needs, additional duties may include intermittent site visits, assisting with new employee education classes and trainings. Additional Comments This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment.
