EDUCATION:
Required: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse
Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003.
Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
EXPERIENCE:
Preferred: At least 1 year of Oncology experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.

Patient Care: Inpatient Activities
- Conduct inpatient rounds with attending physicians and communicate pertinent clinical information based on physical examination and review of patient data
- Manage daily patient problems and emergency situations and document actions implemented and their resolution
- Complete admission histories and physicals, consultation notes, daily progress notes, and discharge summaries in compliance with institutional and departmental guidelines
- Request consultations and communicate with other services, caregivers, and outside providers to coordinate patient care
- Coordinate discharge planning activities
- Order medications, treatments, and diagnostic tests within delegated prescriptive authority and institutional policies
- Perform advanced patient care therapeutic procedures, including removal of arterial catheters
- Evaluate patients and communicate pertinent clinical information based on patient history, physical examination, and review of clinical data
- Dictate PMEs, histories and physicals, consultation notes, clinic notes, and telephone notes into the medical record according to guidelines
- Facilitate appointments and diagnostic testing for new and consultation patients
- Coordinate urgent hospital admissions and emergency room referrals
- Assist with management of unscheduled clinic patients
- Facilitate scheduling of specialized procedures and tests, including CVC insertions, echocardiograms, image-guided biopsies and aspirations, fine needle aspirations, arterial infusions, and embolizations
- Monitor and follow up on laboratory results, diagnostic imaging studies, pathology reports, and other testing outcomes
- Request consultations and coordinate care with internal services and external providers
- Order medications, treatments, and tests within delegated prescriptive authority and institutional guidelines
- Collaborate with research teams on clinical protocol design, order set development, review activities, and protocol-related event management
- Assess patients for protocol eligibility and identify potential study candidates
- Evaluate symptoms, side effects, and toxicities related to standard therapies and investigational studies
- Participate in clinical research through database completion, medical record review, and patient or family interviews
- Collaborate with medical staff, research nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support research initiatives
- Deliver medical presentations within the institution and at local, state, and national levels as applicable
- Complete patient-related paperwork, including letters, FMLA documentation, disability forms, and insurance forms through written, typed, or dictated correspondence
- Conduct peer-to-peer reviews and provide clinical information to support insurance authorization processes
- Complete electronic billing charges within 24 hours of providing patient care services
- Perform additional duties as requested by supervising physicians and permitted by state and federal regulations
- Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills
- Attend continuing medical education opportunities to maintain licensure and certification requirements
- Participate in CME activities related to Sarcoma Medical Oncology as staffing and funding allow
- Attend and actively participate in departmental meetings and conferences
- Maintain current clinical knowledge and professional competency
- Perform other duties as assigned
