American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Labor and Delivery position requiring L&D travel experience, night shifts, and required floating to an affiliate ED.
Job details:
- Work in the Labor and Delivery unit of a short-term acute care hospital
- Facility performs 200-300 births per month
- Night shift schedule with 4x12 hour shifts from 19:00 to 7:30
- Patient ratio of 1:2
- Uses Cerner for charting
- May float to an affiliate hospital's ED to provide OB-specific care alongside a primary RN, without taking a primary assignment
- On first shift at the affiliate facility, arrival 30 minutes early is required for a brief orientation to the unit and supplies
- Floating within the hospital or to a nearby affiliate hospital is required of all travelers
Requirements:
- Active RN license (IN or Compact) required, must be in hand prior to start date
- Current certifications: BLS, NRP, ACLS, and AWHONN Intermediate course required (AWHONN Beginner and C-EFM preferred)
- Minimum 1.5 years of RN experience required, including L&D travel experience
- Teaching hospital and Trauma Level I experience preferred
- Cerner charting experience required
- Experience with high-risk antepartum, labor and delivery management, and postpartum care required
- Skilled in fetal monitoring including EFM, internal fetal monitoring, and IUPC placement/calibration
- Experience managing high-risk conditions such as pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, VBAC, and multiple gestation
- Experience with medication administration including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, and insulin drips
- Neonatal care skills including APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, and newborn assessment required
- Graduate of an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
- Two supervisor references required for consideration
Additional information:
- Provide comprehensive labor and delivery nursing care including antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum management
- Assist with high-risk and vaginal deliveries, including forceps/vacuum extraction and C-section recovery
- Perform neonatal care in the delivery room including thermoregulation and infant identification
- Manage pain assessment and administration of epidural, general anesthesia, and opioids as needed
- Must work 2 of 3 major holidays
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Local IN residents are considered local candidates but are not accepted for this position
- Any current or former IU Health PRN or perm employee must be separated from the organization for at least 12 months before applying as a traveler
- Travelers who have accrued 12 months of employment within IU Health must take a designated consecutive break to reset eligibility before reaching their one-year mark
