Job Summary

This position is for a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for the Adult Sleep Disorders Clinics at Michigan Medicine. This clinician may initially obtain mentored experience in Sleep Medicine at the Sleep Clinic, and then work in collaboration with physicians in the Sleep Clinic.

Responsibilities*

Expectations for this position would include providing direct care to patients in the Sleep Disorders Clinic, provide support to the physicians in clinic, handle higher level medical issues, and contribute to the overall continuity of patients' care. This clinician would provide clinical leadership in practice, staff development and research. Participate in student, physician, and staff education and participate in ongoing quality improvement initiatives. Candidate would be expected to work with clinical staff for scheduling and triage issues as well as supporting clinic nurse in the provision of patient care as needed with the service.

Required Qualifications*

Required Qualifications (NP)

Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
Current specialty certification to practice as a Adult Gero-Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
Current DEA registration required
A minimum of one (1) year of experience working as an APP at an AASM Accredited Sleep Disorders Center or under the supervision of a board-certified sleep medicine Physician.

Required Qualifications (PA)

Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
Current DEA registration required
A minimum of one (1) year of experience working as an APP at an AASM Accredited Sleep Disorders Center or under the supervision of a board-certified sleep medicine Physician.

Description Summary: Accountable for providing advanced nursing and consultation services in accordance with written standardized procedures, the APRN manages the primary care needs of InterCommunity’s patient population. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Provides appropriate nursing and/or health care services to patients including obtaining complete histories; performing pertinent physical exams with assessment of normal and abnormal findings on new patients; clinical assessments, treatments, diagnosing medical conditions, assessing emergencies, ordering diagnostic studies, prescribing medications Obtains interval histories and performs pertinent examinations on return patients Performs various procedures possibly including, but not limited to: Administering injections Performing and/or assisting with minor surgical procedures Obtaining PAP smears, genital, wound and other cultures as indicated Obtaining EKG tracings Performing phlebotomy Irrigating, staining eyes for foreign bodies, abrasions Irrigating ear canals, and removing cerumen Performs specialized duties in providing medical care to a variety of patients including individuals with acute and chronic conditions Consults with clinical staff regarding assessment methods and treatment plans Assists in determining need for contractual health services Provides direction to staff on appropriate health record documentation Prepares reports on health services, problems and investigations Participates in quality assurance and other clinical committees as needed May assist families and other groups in understanding medical needs of patients serviced by agency; may participate as a member of multi-disciplinary evaluation team Recognizes situations which require the immediate attention of a physician and initiates life-saving procedures when necessary.
