Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Infectious Disease

The University of Minnesota Physicians is seeking a Certified Nurse Practitioner or a Certified Physician Assistant to join our Infectious Disease and International Medicine Division practice in in Minneapolis.  

In This Role, You Will:

  • Be responsible for inpatient only duties at the University of Minnesota Medical Center East and Riverside campuses in collaboration with an academic service including attending physicians, residents and students.

  • Coordinate patient care as a part of and in conjunction with the IDIM inpatient team.

  • Provide new consultations in collaboration with IDIM attending physicians.

  • Be responsible for follow-up of infectious disease consultations in collaboration with the care team.

  • Provide consistent resources for the inpatient service and patients.

  • General ID and solid organ transplant ID

  • Inpatient consults and follow up visits for patients at all levels of acuity, including ICU.  Formulate appropriate infection-related discharge and monitoring plans for oral and outpatient IV antimicrobials (OPAT).

  • Group highlights:

    • 25 physicians and 3 other APPs

    • Inpatient consult service collaborating with primary medical and surgical teams as well as other consulting specialists. 

    • Multidisciplinary team, collaboration ID physicians and group of dedicated ID pharmacists

    • Teaching hospital with opportunities to participate in precepting APP students, attend infectious diseases division’s intercity case conference, microbiology lab teaching rounds, as well as system grand rounds and morbidity and mortality conferences.

Your Schedule:

  • 1.0 FTE

  • Day time hours 8:00-4:30

  • Weekend monthly + rotating holiday schedule

We’re Looking For a PA or NP Who Is:

  • A graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or formal Adult Nurse Practitioner training program.

  • Eligible or is certified through NCCPA, ANCC or AANP. 

  • Licensed or eligible to obtain a license and prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Medical Practice (PAs) or MN APRN license with prescriptive authority through the MN Board of Nursing (NPs).

  • Able to meet threshold criteria/qualifications for credentialing and privileges.

  • Minimum of one-year of experience in infectious disease, hospital medicine or other relevant acute care experience as an APRN or PA.

About Us

The inpatient service of the Infectious Disease and International Medicine Division provides consultative services as a part of the multidisciplinary care team to diagnose, treat, and prevent a broad spectrum of infectious diseases. Frequently encountered diagnoses include blood stream infections, infective endocarditis, fungal, intra-abdominal, joint, and post-operative infections. The department also provides specialized transplant infectious disease care in collaboration with surgical teams involved with the University's Transplant Center.
