Summary GENERAL SUMMARY The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled individual that works in a healthcare setting to support the non-clinical and clinical functions of the service area. Functions within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and under the direction and continuous supervision of a licensed healthcare provider (MD, NP, RN, LPN) during performance of uncomplicated clinical services and tasks. Reports to department leadership. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Provides safe and effective delivery of uncomplicated clinical services and tasks within the Medical Assistant scope of practice only and under the direction and continuous supervision of a licensed health care provider. Provides appropriate clinical and non-clinical information to facilitate visit process. Maintains sterility and cleanliness of the environment. Maintains supplies, equipment and instruments. Supports and performs clerical functions as needed. Performs other duties as assigned. LICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS Required Licenses and/or Certifications CPR training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire. Must provide record of a completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing. Preferred Licenses and/or Certifications Current registration/certification as a Medical Assistant or military medical experience preferred. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Required Education and Experience Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program or a recognized medical assistant certification. Preferred Education and Experience One to two years of experience in a related healthcare field preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected. Job Summary Provides general medical care under the direction of a licensed provider to patients in an outpatient clinic setting. This position works directly with a franchised business location. The specific job duties and benefits can vary between franchises. Responsibilities Obtain patient vitals, medical history, and reason for visit, and prepare the patient for a physical exam Explain prescribed procedures and treatments to patients Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with the approved procedure Draw blood and preparation labs for reference lab processing and/or in-house processing Perform laboratory tests, lab-quality controls, and equipment maintenance according to written instructions Respond to all lab messages and call back requests Perform all drug screening procedures in accordance with established rules and regulations Ensure patient immunizations are well documented and administered in accordance with the approved procedure Conduct physician referrals as well as service pre-certifications on an as-needed basis Prepare exam rooms; sterilize instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures Maintain complete and accurate documentation Other duties and responsibilities as assigned Qualifications Associates degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. AMT registered and AAMA Certified Medical Assistants are preferred.
