Staff Nurse, General Medicine - Full-Time, Nights

At UChicago Medicine, we bring the world’s most innovative approaches to patients with all conditions, from common to complex. This department is an 18-bed, fully telemetry capable unit that is functional 24 hours a day, seven days per week. This department treats a wide variety of Adult inpatient populations (at or above 18 years of age) with various types of medical conditions alongside a multidisciplinary team. You will have the ability to work with physicians that are constantly pushing the bounds of possibility forward, conducting groundbreaking research and providing lifesaving, personalized patient care. This position is 100% onsite opportunity.  

 

A staff nurse is a registered professional nurse (RN) who manages patient centered care that is outcome directed. Patient centered care principles and professional nursing practice standards provide the foundation for the nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care provided. The staff nurse assumes the primary responsibility and accountability for all patient care personally provided and that provided by those directly under her/his supervision. 

 

Essential Job Functions

  • Utilizes appropriate assessment skills to determine patient needs. 
  • Develops a plan of care for those patients whose needs do not require the expertise of a Case Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Manager or collaborates with the Case Manager to develop a plan of care for specified patients.
  • Assumes charge nurse responsibilities as assigned by Care Center Director or Patient Care Manager.
  • Provides support to peers by assisting as needed, being a resource person and working as a team member.
  • Assists Care Center in development/attainment of goals and objectives.
  • Uses clinical pathways and/or plans of care incorporating standards of practice.
  • Assesses own need for professional growth and development and seeks appropriate resources to meeting needs.
  • Attends continuing education programs and participates in program evaluation.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an NLN accredited School of Nursing 
  • Associate Degree in Nursing 

Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program

  • Current Illinois RN license 
  • Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)

IHC Registered Nurse - Hospital at Home

The Hospital at Home nurse is responsible for providing high-quality, at-home acute care. The Hospital at Home nurse will treat various conditions and patient populations within the framework of UChicago Medicine’s Acute Hospital Care at Home model. The position requires acute care competencies, along with an ability to work in an unstructured, at-home setting. In addition to providing clinical care, Hospital at Home nurses will be able to explain the unique care plan, technologies, and processes of the acute care at home model to patients and caregivers.
