Job Description:

Full-Time Nursing Unit Manager (RN); Monday - Friday 0800 - 1630; Rotating On-Call - Including Some Weekends; Exempt Position Salary $42.708 - $64.061 Hourly Pay rate may commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved


 

Under limited supervision from the Nursing Director and within the scope of the RN licensure, performs supervisory nursing work, responsible for the 24-hour supervision of nursing services for units within a 24-hour long term facility; assists nursing leadership as requested; supervise professional and paraprofessional staff in the planning, implementing, delivery, and evaluation of nursing services; performs related work as assigned.

Directly supervise professional and paraprofessional nursing staff in providing quality patient care. Complete performance evaluations on assigned nursing service employees. Schedule nursing service staff to assigned shift and work area.

Train employees or staff in providing nursing care of members. May assist as needed in required nursing in-service training programs. 

Train employees or staff in providing nursing care of members. May assist as needed in required nursing in-service training programs. 

Consult with psychiatrists, physicians, psychologists, and other clinical staff in coordinating individual patient care treatment plans. 

Resolve conflicts between members and employees as well as personnel related problems. Assures high standards of infection control. Assures that adequate standards of medical record keeping are maintained. Completes various nursing service reports. 


 

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications: A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska or authority based on the Nurse Licensure Compact to practice as a Registered Nurse in Nebraska and one year of experience assigning, reviewing, leading, or supervising the work of others. 

Preferred Qualifications: Long Term Care experience, Wound Care Certification, MDS Coordinator certification 

Other: Valid driver's license; A pre-employment background check and drug screen are also required.

Knowledge of: registered nursing theory and practice; accepted standards of care; policies and procedures governing nursing care; sanitation and infection control standards; planning, providing, and evaluating quality nursing care; Nebraska regulations pertaining to nursing practice, including scope of practice parameters; psychology or another behavioral science; supervision or management techniques, principles. 

Skill in: coordinating and providing nursing care; directing nursing service program activities. 

Ability to: supervise a shift or program for nursing care; oversee the maintenance of medical records; write administrative reports as required; communicate effectively electronically, telephonically, on paper, or in person; use a computer; monitors direct care staff; assists in training and education direct care staff; plan, monitor work of direct care staff; lift up to 50lbs occasionally and push/pull up to 75lbs on a daily basis; frequently bend at the waist and neck, frequently twist at the waist, and walk or stand up to 90% of the shift.

Research Nurse Manager - Head & Neck Surgery

The Surgery division at MD Anderson Cancer Center is dedicated to advancing oncologic surgery in the nation and the world through safe, high-quality, multidisciplinary patient care, research and education. The division is made up of 10 specialized academic departments and includes surgeons, advanced practice providers, researchers and our administrative teams. We work closely with our partners across the institution, particularly those in Perioperative Services, and Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine as well as through our committees to make improvements to our operating room processes to provide even better care for our patients. The ideal candidate will be an experienced clinical research professional and registered nurse who combines strong leadership capabilities with deep knowledge of clinical trials. This individual ensures high-quality research operations, promotes a culture of clinical excellence, and supports staff and investigators in delivering safe, ethical, and efficient studies. Key Responsibilities Work Assignments and Supervision of Staff Oversees the entire organization and implementation of all study activities and logistics (i.e., obtaining CTRC approval, creation of order sets, medication orders, etc.). Responsible for working one on one with all research staff to implement new studies which includes, training, mentoring and/or assigning mentoring, work schedule, providing training resources, tools, and meeting routinely to assess performance progress. Ensures that appropriate personnel are in place before new research projects and/or protocols are implemented. Coordinates, schedules, and attends all start-up meetings for new protocols. In collaboration with protocol administration team, assesses departmental protocols for acuity and/or patient complexity to incorporate staffing and training needs. Reviews and provides input on study budget to ensure adequate staffing or protocol needs are negotiated; Reviews and provides input on contract to ensure protocol and contract compliance can be achieved. Directs and maintains timely accountability of study research staff in appropriate methods for managing protocol-related costs and charge capture; provides quality assurance for the charge process (e.g., review of study milestone logs or other applicable systems). Ensures and/or provides advanced assessment of patients for protocol eligibility. Job Functions: Provides operational leadership for the assigned patient care area during designated shifts to ensure safe, efficient, high-quality patient care and appropriate staffing. Coordinates daily clinical operations by managing patient flow, staffing assignments, patient acuity, and resource utilization to support quality outcomes and operational efficiency. Provides direct clinical support and serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff, assisting with complex patient care situations, emergencies, and staffing needs. Promotes safe, evidence-based nursing practice by monitoring compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, infection prevention practices, and organizational policies. Monitors patient care quality through clinical rounding, chart audits, quality reviews, incident follow-up, and implementation of corrective actions to improve outcomes. Assists with workforce management by participating in scheduling, staffing adjustments, attendance management, and productivity oversight to meet patient care needs. Facilitates communication and coordination among interdisciplinary teams to ensure continuity of care, effective care transitions, and achievement of departmental objectives. Participates in organizational quality, safety, regulatory, and performance improvement initiatives, including leadership rounding, committee participation, and implementation of system priorities. Maintains clinical competence and leadership proficiency through required education, professional development, leadership training, and ongoing competency validation. Provides direct patient care as needed, including assessment, development and implementation of the nursing plan of care, patient and family education, documentation, and evaluation of patient outcomes in accordance with professional standards. Coordinates daily operations of Interventional Radiology services by managing procedural schedules, case prioritization, room utilization, and workflow to optimize patient throughput and resource utilization. Collaborates with radiologists, procedural physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary teams to improve procedural efficiency, optimize on-time starts, reduce room turnover, and facilitate emergent and add-on procedures. Coordinates nursing coverage across Diagnostic Imaging services to ensure appropriate clinical support for Interventional Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, and other imaging modalities during routine operations, after-hours, weekends, and emergency situations. Supports operational readiness for Interventional Radiology services, including extended hours, on-call coverage, emergent procedural response, and resource coordination for time-sensitive interventions. Collaborates with Diagnostic Imaging leadership to align Interventional Radiology operations with departmental objectives, strategic initiatives, capital planning, technology implementation, and service expansion. Coordinates specialty supply and equipment management by monitoring procedural inventory, specialty devices, and supply utilization to support uninterrupted clinical operations. Provides clinical oversight of procedural nursing care for Interventional Radiology patients, including invasive procedures, moderate sedation, physiologic monitoring, and post-procedure recovery in accordance with organizational standards. Maintains procedural readiness for high-acuity patient care by ensuring appropriate response to procedural emergencies, including hemorrhage, airway compromise, contrast reactions, and other procedure-related complications. Serves as a clinical resource and consultant for complex Interventional Radiology procedures, specialty nursing practice, and procedural problem-solving. Ensures compliance with specialty practice standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards applicable to Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology services, including radiation safety, contrast safety, infection prevention, and procedural quality. Monitors specialty-specific clinical and operational performance indicators to identify opportunities for improving procedural quality, patient safety, access, throughput, and patient outcomes. Coordinates patient progression throughout the Interventional Radiology care continuum by facilitating efficient patient preparation, procedural readiness, recovery, discharge planning, and coordination with emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services. Performs other leadership and clinical responsibilities necessary to support departmental and organizational operations. Minimum Education/Experience Required: Current licensure in the State of Ohio or if working in WV will need WV Licensure as a Registered Nurse required. BSN preferred. 2 years of Interventional Radiology experience required. Minimum of three years of clinical experience preferred. Current BLS required. ACLS within 1 year of employment required. Maintains compliance in RQI and Attends leadership classes/ Frontline 50 required. Special Knowledge, Skills, Training: Verbal and written communication skills.
