Position Summary

MultiCare is seeking a nocturnist Advanced Practice Provider to deliver high‑quality inpatient care across Acute Care Surgical Services and Urology. The role provides overnight coverage for inpatient and ED consults, rounding, minor bedside procedures, first-assisting for urgent/emergent cases as appropriate to scope, and seamless care coordination with on‑call surgeons and day teams. This provider will practice in a highly collaborative, integrated environment and contribute to the growth of General Surgery and Urology services with community partners across the Puget Sound region.

Responsibilities

Core (shared) Responsibilities

Perform inpatient and ED consults; round on admitted patients; manage active patient lists overnight
Place pre‑ and post‑operative orders and conduct/complete comprehensive histories & physicals (H&Ps) per privileging
Provide patient and family education; ensure diligent follow‑up consistent with community standards
Manage in‑basket communications and coordinate cross‑coverage handoffs to day teams
Respond to pages/messages via PerfectServe and other approved channels in accordance with MultiCare policies

ACS Responsibilities

Assist with urgent/emergent general surgery cases consistent with privileging and surgeon direction (first‑assist)
Support bedside procedures and resuscitation/initial management workflows for surgical patients
Participate in APP/staff onboarding and ongoing training as requested by the service

Urology Responsibilities

Perform Urology inpatient/ED consults and rounding, including minor bedside urologic procedures within scope and competency
Coordinate urgent operative cases with the OR; facilitate pre‑op planning and post‑op care for urologic patients.
As service needs allow, support clinic follow‑ups and procedure‑related care coordination (primarily daytime teams)

Requirements

Washington State Advanced Practice license: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required.
WA DEA, NPI & prescriptive authority required
ACLS, ATLS & BLS for Healthcare providers – certification by AHA required
Trauma certification as required by facility
Surgical Experience Preferred with competency in either urologic or general surgery workflows; prior first‑assist experience strongly preferred

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $180,750.00 - $214,500.00 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. The ARNP/PA-C Provides care to patients admitted to the hospital for cancer-directed therapy, acute illness, and complications related to therapy, underlying disease, and concurrent illness. Performs clinical assessment and management of medical needs, performs procedures, participates in goals-of-care discussions, and consults with professional peers working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to coordinate care. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician. This position is hired at 1.0 FTE and Teaching Associates in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position requires some weekend and holiday coverage. The anticipated start date is November 1, 2026. Responsibilities Works as part of an interdisciplinary team on the inpatient units at UWMC working 12 hour rotating day shifts to cover 7 days per week. Performs complex and problem-focused H&P’s; rounds daily with team and attending physician. Evaluates and manages all aspects of care for medical oncology and hematology inpatients. Performs procedures including bone marrow biopsy and lumbar puncture according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice. Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services. Communicates changes in patient status, care needs, and urgent issues to the outpatient primary oncology team, and facilitates seamless transitions from inpatient to outpatient care. Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees. Actively participates in clinical aspects of research trials. Documents patient care data in accordance with the UWP policies. Other duties as assigned to meet dynamic inpatient UWMC needs Salary The base salary range for this position will be: $10,917 - $16,788 per month ($131,000 - $201,456 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Certified as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner. One year of ARNP or PA-C experience strongly preferred. Hematology, Oncology, or Inpatient experience strongly preferred.
