Position Overview
Cedar Ridge Inn is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and detail-oriented Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to join our skilled nursing team.
As a CMA, you will play an important role in supporting resident health and safety through the accurate and timely administration of medications within your authorized scope of practice. You will work under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing staff while monitoring residents, documenting medication administration, and promptly communicating changes or concerns.
In addition to medication-related responsibilities, you will support residents with appropriate daily care needs and collaborate with nurses, CNAs, and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure residents receive safe, respectful, and person-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and administer medications as authorized within the CMA scope of practice and in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and applicable requirements
Follow established medication administration procedures to promote resident safety and reduce medication errors
Accurately document medication administration within the electronic medication administration record (eMAR) or other designated documentation system
Observe residents for medication effectiveness, potential side effects, adverse reactions, and changes in condition
Promptly report medication concerns, adverse reactions, refusals, omissions, or changes in resident condition to the supervising licensed nurse
Obtain and document vital signs and other resident information as assigned and within scope of practice
Ensure medications are appropriately stored, secured, handled, and accounted for according to facility procedures
Follow appropriate procedures for medication cart security, medication storage areas, and controlled medications as applicable
Communicate effectively with licensed nursing staff regarding resident medication needs and clinical concerns
Assist residents with activities of daily living and other care needs within certification, training, and assigned responsibilities
Support residents with mobility, transfers, repositioning, hygiene, toileting, and other appropriate care activities as assigned
Respond promptly and professionally to resident requests and call lights
Maintain resident dignity, privacy, confidentiality, and personal preferences
Follow infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, appropriate PPE utilization, and applicable precautions
Participate in required staff meetings, in-service education, competency training, and professional development activities
Maintain compliance with facility policies and applicable federal and New Mexico requirements
Qualifications
Current and valid Certified Medication Aide (CMA) credential meeting applicable New Mexico requirements
Completion of an approved Medication Aide training program as applicable
CNA certification or other prerequisite credential as required for medication aide practice in New Mexico
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Previous experience in skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, assisted living, or another healthcare environment preferred
Knowledge of medication administration procedures and resident safety practices
Strong attention to detail and commitment to medication accuracy
Ability to recognize potential medication concerns and promptly communicate them to licensed nursing personnel
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Ability to follow instructions and work effectively under the direction of licensed nursing staff
Strong organizational and time-management abilities
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
Compassionate and respectful approach to caring for older adults and individuals with varying clinical needs
