As a Surgical Technician, CST at MercyOne, your functions in the scrub role during intraoperative patient care, doing so as a delegated technical function under the direct supervision of the perioperative Registered Nurse. The provision of care is consistent through adherence to standards and support of the philosophies of Genesis Medical Center.

Position Title: Surgical Technician, CST

Department: Operating Room

Schedule:

Day Shift (10am-6:30pm)
Full Time .8 FTE (32 hours per week)

General Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
Or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa. CST certification is required if working in Illinois. LPN license is required if you are a graduate of an LPN program.
No prior experience is required.
BLS. Mandatory Reporter.
Ability to work with diverse groups of people; ability to work under pressure and with a large degree of independence and accountability; and the ability to accept responsibility for the direction, control or planning of an activity.
Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another without loss of efficiency or composure.

Develops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties. Hours: Day Shift - 8- hour shifts. Specialty team: call 10-12 days per month Call response time is 30 min. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduate of a surgical technologist program is required, or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience. Certification as a surgical technologist required. Job Requirements POSITION SUMMARY To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities in the operating room under the direction of a registered nurse. PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Performs a variety of duties in an operating room observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations. Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures. Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment. Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy. Assists with precepting new technical personnel. Attends in-services and mandatory meetings. Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient. Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies needed in an operative procedure. Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills check list.
