A Brief Overview

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in an outpatient setting. This role includes but not limited to rooming patients, obtaining vital signs, documenting in the electronic medical record, assisting with procedures, supporting providers, and promoting efficient patient flow while delivering patient-centered care.

  • Assist with front desk duties specific to department, including scheduling patients, collecting and verifying patient payor information and other patient documentation.
  • Performs basic patient centered care as delegated by provider
  • Provides a safe environment for patients

This position prepares patients for care, assists with abortion procedures, performs laboratory services, maintains accurate medical records, and helps ensure patient visits move safely and efficiently. This role also supports the revenue cycle by verifying payment information, determining eligibility for financial assistance, collecting and reconciling payments, and completing related closing procedures. Prepare patients for care and assist clinicians during abortion procedures. Provide appropriate patient education, information, forms, and referrals. Conduct pregnancy testing and provide related information and referrals. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, including blood and urine samples. Perform venipuncture within the scope of your training, certification, or licensure. Prepare procedure and examination rooms and maintain appropriate supplies, cleanliness, and inventory. Maintain patient confidentiality and approach sensitive healthcare matters with compassion and without judgment. Administrative and Financial Support Register and schedule patients for services. Prepare and maintain accurate patient registration, medical, laboratory, and visit records. Document required information in the electronic health record and review entries for accuracy. Verify patient payment methods and determine eligibility for financial assistance or private-pay services. Calculate patient fees and collect, post, and reconcile payments according to organizational billing and financial procedures.
