 JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing and evaluating. Responsible for the directing and coordinating all nursing care for medical/surgical patients based on established nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supports the organizational vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

Holds an active Registered Nurse license and is eligible to practice in the state of Kentucky. 

Current BLS certification.

Minimum Work Experience

Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering medications and treatments, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers, and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

Essential Functions - Assessment

• Performs complete & holistic health assessments on admission using a systematic, ongoing approach to collecting data about patients & documents findings.

• Assessment data includes physiological, psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and life-style factors.

• Performs focus assessments as needed, based on a specific problem identified during a previous assessment or reported by another staff or family member.

• Performs daily assessments comparing current status to baseline. Detection of changes in functioning, mental status, wound healing, or other health concerns are reported to the appropriate person and documented accurately.

Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (Part Time)

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care while maintaining professional accountability for assigned patients. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers and coordinates patient care collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams. Position Details: The PCU is a unit that provides care to patients age 18 and older requiring a higher level of care and surveillance than a general med/surg floor but not presenting the need for critical care in an intensive care unit. The PCU patient population at any given time is a cross sample of the hospital census, just to a slightly more acute degree. For this reason, a broad scope is needed for those wishing to work in PCU as they care for all systems from neuro to cardiac to GI and beyond. Patients in the progressive care unit require nursing assessment and reassessment every 2 to 4 hours. Clinically, they may present with a variety of medical needs including but not limited to: New onset asymptomatic dysrhythmia responding to treatment; hypertensive or hypotensive urgency; hemodynamically stable myocardial infarction; stable neurological deficits; confusion/agitation/substance withdrawal; respiratory distress or evidence of compromised gas exchange when hemodynamically stable and responding to treatment; maintenance/initiation of BIPAP/CPAP or high flow oxygen therapy in which further deterioration is unlikely after initiation. Unit specific certifications required include ACLS, basic dysrhythmia interpretation, NIHSS and ASLS, these classes are offered through Mercy and should be completed upon 90 days from hire. Qualifications: Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (associate's degree, Diploma, or BSN). Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements. Additional Information About the Role This is an exciting opportunity to support our Transitional Care Unit. This TCU will focus on supporting boarding patients in the ED while they await inpatient beds. 2x12's; every 3rd weekend Nights up to $7,500k Sign-on Bonus eligible (external applicants) Additional Preferred Requirements ED and/or Inpatient experience helpful Overview Preferred Qualifications Role Purpose Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care. Responsibilities Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment. Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration. Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development. Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with other members of the interprofessional team and patient, family or caregiver in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care. Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care. Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
