The Indiana Poison Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to join a highly specialized team dedicated to providing poison information, toxicology consultation, and treatment recommendations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This unique nursing role combines critical thinking, patient assessment, education, and evidence-based practice to assist healthcare providers and the public in managing poison exposures and toxicological emergencies. Working in the Poison Center offers an opportunity to utilize and expand your clinical knowledge across a wide range of patient populations and toxicology-related presentations. Nurses receive extensive orientation and ongoing education in poison management, toxicology principles, communication techniques, and clinical consultation.
Shift: Part-Time (Hybrid), Special Weekends Option, 1:00 pm – 1:00 am
Patient Population/Services:
- Pediatric and adult poison exposures
- Medication overdoses
- Environmental and occupational exposures
- Envenomation and toxic ingestions
- Drug information and toxicology consultations
- Emergency preparedness and public health response
Department Successes/Recognition
- Accredited regional poison center serving the state of Indiana
- 24/7 clinical consultation resource for healthcare providers and the public
- Collaborative partnerships with hospitals, emergency departments, EMS agencies, and public health organizations
- Ongoing involvement in toxicology education, prevention, and outreach initiatives
Qualifications
- Requires Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Requires current State of Indiana Registered Nurse license.
- Registered Nurse (RN) must have graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
- Exceptions: Candidates who have not graduated from a nationally accredited program may be considered if they possess more than two years of acute care experience. Such exceptions are subject to review and approval by the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO).
- Requires Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Critical care, emergency department, pediatrics, or related experience preferred.
- Strong assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills required.
