Overview

The Developmental and Behavioral Health team at Children’s Mercy helps children and teens with developmental, psychiatric, or psychological needs. We provide mental, emotional, and behavioral health services that lead to healthier children and stronger families.

    • Eating Disorders
      • Outpatient care for children with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other eating disorders
    • Learning problems other than dyslexia
    • Tourette Syndrome
      • We have the only care center designed for children with Tourette Syndrome in the United States.
  • Psychological testing for concerns with:
    • Attention
    • Thinking, reasoning, and remembering
    • Emotions and behaviors
    • Social interactions
  • Guidance for families with children who have developmental delays or disabilities
  • Manage psychiatric medications for children with autism or developmental disabilities.
  • Therapy for children with chronic illnesses

Registered nurses provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families who require care. Registered staff nurses utilize the nursing process and knowledge of scientific principles to provide safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age appropriate nursing care for their assigned patients. Registered staff nurses provide patient and family education and advocate for their needs. Registered nurses coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as necessary.

  • Utilizes the nursing process to develop and implement a safe, high quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate plan of care for the patient and family that promotes optimal patient outcomes.
  • Meets the educational needs of the patient and family and advocates for their needs.

  • Utilizes current research and evidence for practice to expand personal professional knowledge, enhance role performance, and improve nursing care quality.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree ADN Required.
    • Current employees hired before September 1, 2013 are grandfathered and permitted to continue in the direct care nursing role. 
  • Bachelor's Degree BSN preferred for all nurses hired after September 1, 2013.
    • Nurses hired after this date without a BSN must complete their degree within 5 years of their hire date. 
  • One of the following required upon hire:
    • Licensed RN - Kansas, Registered Nurse Multistate License Kansas
    • Licensed RN - MO, Registered Nurse Multistate License Missouri
    • RN Compact license for all states besides KS and MO
      • Employees must obtain Licensed RN - KS or MO multistate within 90 days of hires
  • Refer to Nursing and Advanced Practice Provider Licensure and Certification policy for required Life Support Certifications Required Upon Hire
  • Specialty Certification relevant to unit's patient population (determined by Nurse Manager/Director) Preferred Upon Hire

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $32.00/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

 

 

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.

Registered Nurse Telemetry

Overview Shift Available: Nights Employment Type: Part-Time Hours: 7:00pm-7:00am (12-hour shifts) Location: St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, MO We are seeking a Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN), sometimes referred to as a Telemetry RN or Tele RN. A Tele RN specializing in attending to patients within our telemetry units, including those needing cardiac monitoring. The Tele RN will monitor and interpret our patient's vital signs, such as heart rate, heart rhythm, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen saturation level. Continuous monitoring of patients, by the Telemetry RN enables gathering real-time data to make informed decisions regarding patient care, ensuring early detection of abnormalities or changes in the patient's condition. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): Recognizes signs of abuse and reports appropriately to the hospital social worker and/or Adult / Child Protective Services. Familiar with the EMTALA Regulations. Responsible for the observation and direction of patient lifts, mobilization, and shall participate as needed in patient handling. Attends and maintains mandatory training in safe patient handling, trained in safe lifting techniques, includes but not limited to 1) Appropriate use of lifting devices and equipment, 2) Five areas of body exposure: vertical, lateral, bariatric repositioning and ambulation, 3) Use of lifting devices to handle patients safely. Uses professional judgment and clinical assessment in safe patient handling that are consistent with Safe Patient Handling policies.
