Job Description

 Under the guidance and supervision of a registered nurse, provide nursing care in an orthopedic setting.  Responsibilities include subsequent assessments, collection of data, administration of medications and treatments, and documentation of care provided.  Perform duties within the scope of the Missouri State Board of Nurse Practice Act.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

• Collects data and makes observations on an assigned group of patients to provide supportive data in the patient assessment and nursing plan of care.  Performs subsequent assessments of the patient after the RN has completed the initial admission assessment.  RN will reassess when there is a change in condition and/or level of care.  In the ambulatory setting, the LPN can perform assessment only if the RN has done an initial assessment.
• Assists the registered nurse in implementing interventions identified in the patient plan of care.  Promotes attainment of specified goals through health education to patients/families, and health care personnel as delegated by the registered nurse.
• Participates in quality strategies to evaluate compliance with standards and to identify opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
• Demonstrates competency in practice and knowledge of current standards of practice.  Maintains credentials and performs current nursing practice expectations within established guidelines.
• Provides care in a manner that respects the patient’s rights and choices in a multi-cultural setting.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills appropriate for the clinical area assigned.  (departmental addendum.)

• Maintains current knowledge related to applicable statutes, regulations, guidelines and standards necessary to perform job duties in accordance with the requirements of the Corporate Compliance Plan.  Complies with the requirements of the Code of Conduct, Corporate Compliance Plan and Compliance Policies and Procedures, including training requirements.  Participates in compliance activities under the direction of the Department Manager and Corporate Compliance Officer.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Minimum Requirements

1.    Graduation from an accredited practical or vocational nursing program. 

2.    Licensed as a practical nurse in the State of Missouri.

3.    Certified BCLS.

 

Preferred Qualifications

1.    State approved certification in IV Therapy.
