The Nurse Manager is responsible for the overall clinical and operational leadership of the assigned nursing unit, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Brooks Rehabilitation.
This position provides leadership and direction to nursing staff, promotes a positive and collaborative work environment, and is accountable for staff development, competency, scheduling, staffing, performance management, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and budget management. The Nurse Manager works collaboratively with physicians, clinical leaders, educators, rehabilitation professionals, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to support exceptional patient outcomes and experiences.
The Nurse Manager analyzes quality and patient care trends, identifies opportunities for improvement, develops and implements action plans, and ensures policies and procedures are consistently followed. This leader serves as a role model for professional nursing practice and promotes a culture of accountability, compassion, respect, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Clinical and Patient Care Leadership
- Provides leadership and oversight for the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate patient care within the assigned unit.
- Promotes patient-centered care and ensures patient rights, dignity, privacy, and confidentiality are maintained.
- Monitors quality and patient care trends at the unit level and identifies opportunities for improvement.
- Ensures adherence to infection prevention, universal precautions, patient safety, and other applicable clinical policies and procedures.
- Promotes evidence-based nursing practice and compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Partners with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to address patient care needs and support positive outcomes.
- Demonstrates and promotes excellent service to patients, families, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
Daily Operations
- Provides oversight of daily unit operations to promote safe, efficient, and effective care delivery.
- Analyzes quality, patient care, staffing, and operational trends and identifies gaps requiring intervention.
- Applies critical thinking to develop and implement corrective action and performance improvement plans.
- Conducts leader rounding and promptly escalates concerns that cannot be resolved at the unit level.
- Ensures appropriate staffing and scheduling to meet patient care needs and operational requirements.
- Maintains accountability for the department budget and promotes responsible use of organizational resources.
- Identifies performance improvement opportunities and develops processes, procedures, and policies to support continuous improvement.
- Ensures implementation, review, and appropriate updating of unit policies and procedures.
- Participates in organizational and departmental performance improvement initiatives as needed.
Staff Leadership and Development
- Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and support to nursing staff and other assigned team members.
- Ensures employees are appropriately oriented, competent, mentored, and supported in their professional growth.
- Oversees staffing, scheduling, interviewing, selection, and hiring for the assigned unit in collaboration with Recruitment and Human Resources.
- Partners with clinical educators and the assistant manager to provide effective orientation and onboarding for new team members.
- Evaluates individual staff performance in a timely manner in accordance with established organizational criteria.
- Establishes realistic performance and professional development goals and provides ongoing guidance and feedback.
- Addresses performance concerns appropriately and consistently while promoting accountability and professional growth.
- Supports employee engagement, retention, teamwork, and development of a positive work culture.
- Provides guidance and support for Shared Governance Council activities, as appropriate.
- Promotes professional nursing practice and continued development of clinical knowledge and skills.
Job Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Arizona, or eligibility for Arizona RN licensure through the applicable licensure process.
- Minimum of two years of clinical nursing experience.
- Previous nursing leadership or management experience preferred.
- Demonstrated experience with staff supervision, performance management, staffing, scheduling, and team development preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
- Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) certification preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
- Ability to analyze clinical and operational data, identify opportunities for improvement, and develop and implement effective action plans.
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, clinical leaders, educators, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Demonstrated commitment to providing exceptional patient care and customer service.
