About the Job

The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to physicians, advanced practice providers, and care teams within an ambulatory practice setting. The Medical Assistant works collaboratively with patients and healthcare team members to ensure efficient clinic operations and an exceptional patient experience.


What You'll Do

  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for provider visits.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
  • Assist providers with examinations and office procedures.
  • Administer immunizations, medications, and injections within scope of practice.
  • Perform point-of-care testing and specimen collection as appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, clinical supplies, and equipment.
  • Document patient information accurately within the electronic medical record.
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate patient follow-up care.
  • Process referrals, prior authorizations, and prescription refill requests.
  • Answer patient phone calls and portal messages while providing outstanding customer service.
  • Promote patient safety, infection prevention, and quality care initiatives.
  • Participate in practice and organizational meetings, trainings, and process improvement activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or a minimum of three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience.
  • Current BLS certification or ability to obtain within established timeframe.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency and experience working with electronic medical records.

Preferred

  • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
  • Previous experience in an ambulatory physician practice.
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record.
